In my opinion, I think most people are trying for the top 10% in both genders, not just women. It's kind of the idea that if it's on there, it's accessible. Guys tend to want cute, young and sweet, no matter how old or broke or fat they themselves are. Women tend to want tall, fit and loaded, no matter how many kids they themselves have, how fat they are, and how little they can bring to the table. I think that the majority are potentially dateable within the right category, I just think that people aren't realistic about the caliber of people they are actually qualified to date. It's one of the problems with having so many options.
I know that may sound a little harsh, but I think it's real. Of course every guy will go for the pretty princess, and of course every woman would go for the handsome prince. But most of us are peasants, tradespeople, maybe nobility, but not royalty. I have an idea of what caliber of guy I can date. I would stick with that caliber because it's where I am. It would be silly to go above that because I try to be objective about myself. I'm fit, average in looks, and I have kids from a previous relationship. I'm assuming I might be able to come across someone in a similar situation who's a decent person eventually. But I think it would be delusional to believe I could go much beyond that.
I know this is a terrible analogy and people are clearly not cars, but it's kind of like we can look at Ferraris, bookmark pages about Ferraris, and know all the latest specs on Ferraris. But let's be real; most of us will never even ride in one, let alone own one. It would be silly to go in to the dealership every week and be reminded that we aren't in the position of qualifying for that quality of car. So, we go to the Toyota dealership and shop in the category that is most appropriate for us. We may actually come away with something that will make us very happy and satisfied.
I just listened to one of my favorite podcasts on this very topic, Diary of a CEO with Stephen Bartlett. He interviews Paul Brunson, and it's fascinating to hear his perspective on relationships. It's long, but if you walk or bike often, it's worth a listen in sections.
That's my opinion, anyway. :D
No, I agree that there are definitely leagues and people who say otherwise are delusional. Sure, I've seen physically unattractive people end up with physically attractive people, but that just means the unattractive person has other qualities that the other person desires, whether it be money, fitness, height, personality, etc. which makes up for the lack of physical attraction.
Truthfully, I don't think all men desire only young women. Physically attractive and sweet, yes. I think that's a given. But there are plenty of older women that are attractive both physically and personality-wise, which is all guys care about for the most part. Having kids does make a woman less desirable though. Men don't generally want to raise another man's kids and want to have their own, so I agree with you there.
From your personality, views, and physical attraction level though (I haven't seen you, but I get the feeling you're above average in terms of that), I believe you're a high value woman.
Out of curiosity, you mean this interview?
www.youtube.com/watch
Agree. Men and women have different mate selection criteria but we both would like to date up as much as we could. For a women economic prowess is going to in the mix. For men beauty is going to be part of the mix.
It is only in recent times that we have a large group we could possibly date from in cities. Before then typically there would a very limited number of girls and guys to choose from.
A single beautiful girl walking past me in the street could potentially increase my standard of who I would date.
Or folks, something new changes the brain đ§ aka 'you never saw their full body stature and or their face up close and then you're like 'ohhh" uhhh. Or it's something else like "and then I realised, she was right handed" đ
Or even more superficial things "I'm not the right body shape for her" lol đ
@HawkPerception Actually it was this one:
www.youtube.com/watch
I was curious what the take would be, but when I got into it, it wasn't just about women. I agreed with so many things Brunson said, I was nodding and going "Yes!" so much of the time. His thoughts on sexual satisfaction and relationships myths are pretty spot on from my personal experience. I wasn't entirely in agreement with his take on infidelity and I'm still digesting that one. His defense of marriage to Stephen was interesting, but I don't think he sold it as well as he could have; he got a little muddy on that.
Definitely take my statements as a general opinion, I've observed some similar things about guys and dating. I actually am not putting myself out there atm because I've got things requiring my focus right now, so first-hand I can't say it's my experience. I just hear what guys and gals say and split the difference.
Thanks for saying that; sometimes I think I might be pretty. Then I look in the mirror right after I wake up and go, "Yep, average". :D But I'd far rather be valued for my character, so I appreciate the compliment.
I don't mind an older more mature woman
Im tall fit and broke lol
"In my opinion, I think most people are trying for the top 10% in both genders, not just women."
I don't know if I necessarily agree with that statement.. I think certain noticeable numbers of people are looking for that, but majority of people are okay with the average person, but just seem to view people are an accessory to be shown off, rather than a person to love.. IMHO..
In a world of beauty , average is fugly
@Uglygaypoorcoward94 Yep, I know. Filters and makeup are not things an average woman can compete with.
I'm much prettier to guys once they have a conversation with me or do an activity. But I don't have Angelina Jolie lips, or dramatic eyebrows, or a cute little nose. I like to refer to my nose as "aquiline", LOL. Apparently, my nasal shape is a gene inherited from Neanderthals. :D Oh, well...
And hey, what's with your username? That seems a little self-deprecating. :(
@Joshydavid25 I'm not sure... So many guys look at porn and beautiful influencers, and guys do comment often on how women go for the top 10% and ignore the rest. If a girl is beautiful, she will likely get attention from every guy on a dating app. And it goes without saying what happens with a handsome man.
I get what you're saying though. Definitely not everyone. My thought was more directed toward the abundance of perceived options. Like, if we see 5 profiles, and #5 is very attractive and #1 is not attractive, if we don't look deeper, we tend to look at the photo to determine if someone is smart/dumb, rich/poor, interesting/boring, etc. Sometimes I think that throws us off from what we really want or need in a person. Hence, the high-drama breakups and infidelity and so on.
I totally agree that we do tend to see people as accessories, sadly, rather than individuals who we share common goals and mindsets with. Thanks for helping me refine and clarify! :)
@TheRealPepperPotts Hmm, I'd like to give my 2 cents here. Just because a girl is physically attractive does not mean guys consider her dateable. If she's a social media model/influencer that usually means she lives off of the validation from many. The majority of men do not want a girl where they themselves are not enough validation for them regardless of her views.
Same goes for a woman that's physically attractive and dresses provocatively. It might be eye candy and we might give it a look/glance, but we don't consider that to be dating material.
My favourite saying in dating is:
"Men are salesmen and women are marketers. That's why in a relationship men should stop pitching and women should stop advertising."
Most women that are physically attractive (and dress provocatively) don't understand that concept and always need that dopamine rush from all the external validation. Because of their need for that attention, a guy would always need to look over his shoulder in a relationship and that's why generally, they're not relationship material.
I reverse discriminate now. The quality I most want in a women is that she is genuinely nice because that is an umbrella for a number of desirable qualities.
But I am quite distracted by spectacular bodies and bright amusing personalities. I certainly want to have sex with them
I sort of think that it is not so much "sometimes... throws us off from what we really want or need" but nearly always throws us off.
I am I think more susceptible to be thrown off by bright amusing personalities than by spectacular bodies.
I would like to say to everyone here that there have been a lot of perceptive thoughts that are helpful.
@RavVid I agree. I love these conversations. It's always great to see multiple opinions being exchanged in a civil manner, especially between men and women. :)
Good point. I was toning it down a bit, but I actually agree it nearly always throws people off. I get thrown off by charisma and boundary pushing, actually. I'm learning to balance setting boundaries with still being approachable. It's a dance I'm a little clumsy at still.
@HawkPerception That makes sense and I can see the temptation to find out if we are "pretty" or a 6, LOL. I've felt it myself. But you're right; that is an insecurity. An insecurity posting bikini pics or filtered photos or having surgeries. That leads to the deeper questions of why are our girls/women so insecure about their looks? How have we created a society where the value of a women is on her appearance? I'm not going overboard into the body positivity stuff; that's over the top and I don't believe it's healthy, because it's still fixating on women's bodies. Interesting stuff.
I think my perspective was considering the dating app format, mainly. You make a good point, and the success rate shouldn't be based on the volume of interested people, but on the quality of interested people and the long term success of the relationship. It only takes one right person.
"My thought was more directed toward the abundance of perceived options. Like, if we see 5 profiles, and #5 is very attractive and #1 is not attractive, if we don't look deeper, we tend to look at the photo to determine if someone is smart/dumb, rich/poor, interesting/boring, etc."
Good analysis.. Most definitely, especially with the perceived abundance.. And no problem.. đ
Thanks. For better or worse I'm pretty sure our reptilian brain calls the shots and we respond to what was good choices in 2 million BC. (I pick that date because it is when Homo Erectus started strutting his/her stuff on the African savanna).
You liking charisma and boundary pushing - this was a good choice back then because that man was likely a leader or would become one in time and you would be best off mated with a leading man in the tribe.
I'm quite sure my choices are largely instinctual i. e not being made by my conscious mind.
There have been times when I have been walking down the street worrying about my finances, only aware of other people just enough not to bump into them. With my conscious in reverie, I suddenly find I have an erection. My unconscious mind has picked a girl for me!
When my conscious mind starts scanning for her, it is in complete agreement. This extends to women I'd just say "she is pleasant" about. This past week I've just realized that women that I think are pleasant (without any sexual intentions towards) pretty much all look the same.
We have suppressed some of our instincts with conscious thought, so there is a little hope we can do this in partner picking. :)
Not necessarily. Iâd say itâs more like youâre undateable to certain people. Those are also the people who donât want to date you so you should also consider undateable. The right person wonât see you as âundateableâ.

SighâŚ
You really want to know? Itâs a catch 22.
To have a fair assessment youâd have to date and be around a significant number of the global population of the opposite sex (which then would make you a chippy/chad⌠and therefore ultimately not relationship material yourself).
Yes, because more than 50% of them are already married or in a committed relationship, and there are single women who have obvious deal breakers such as low IQ or they are loud and boisterous.
Not everyone is my type romantically but that certainly doesnât mean that there isnât someone else they are right for.
Women act entitled and expect a guy to pay for everything yet be their byatch, letting the woman do as they please with all the money. They want a mentally, emotionally neutered male nowadays. They will ruin a guyâs life on a whim and expect full custody and child support in a divorce or custody case even if they are capable of or make more than he does and he is innocent of wrongdoing. As a woman and mother, I am sick of female hypocrisy and double standards from women today. Guys have always manipulated and lied to get sex. Too many guys today have no concept of fidelity or a work ethic, nevermind being able to defend the family even verbally, fix a carâs basics, do any kind of home repair, actually go fishing, or how to be an equal partner. They vary in extremes from couldnât boil water to testosterone filled idiots with no empathy or communication skills in too many cases. Finding a guy who can do guy things along with cook but has a firm grip on faithfulness, honesty, good communication, equality, nonviolence towards their partner, and cuddling (and isnât gay) is almost impossible.
Ya had me in the first half.
SOME guys manipulate and lie to get sex. Not even close to all. I agree work ethic has gone down dramatically.
Fixing a car is easy and you can YouTube it if need be. It's more about the willingness to attempt to fix than the know-how nowadays. Everyone has information at their fingertips.
And as for your last bit... I think men are definitely worse at communicating than women are in general and aren't as empathetic, but I also think that's partly a biological factor.
At my age, most definitely.
1. Most women in my generation are hoes
2. Liberal ideas have ruined my generation in general. Many can't understand if they are a man or woman (Hint! Look down! Long thing=man, hole=woman)
3. Women often want all the rewards with none of the work.
4. The very risk to men to even ASK women out is too high. "No" is not the "worst thing that can happen".
5. The few good women left at my age are probably already married.
Given the difference in my values from the majority, absolutely, without a doubt.
Someone might take that as an insult, but I don't mean it as an insult. There is so much more to culture and relationships than just "romance," especially in a society where romance is so skewed.
Do I believe many people are very misguided and have a totally backwards moral compass and way of thinking? Yes. Does that mean I hate those people? Absolutely not. Differing opinions are necessary for growth and the advancement of civilization. A perfect example of that are the great philosophers of ancient Greece, who were products of debate and critical thinking.
In my case, this is definitely true.
You see, I don't date because I don't like the constraints, obligations and other pressures put on a person when you date. The first thing that a guy will want to do with you is to fornicate. There is no but or if, it is the sad reality.
In today's totally screwed up world, copulation is what rules a relationship and not something else. I am not interested in that activity and therefore, for me, I would say that over 95% of the opposite (or same) gender only have that one thing polluting their minds. That is a huge turn off.
We're born with genitalia for a reason and the desire to have sex is natural. It shouldn't be demonized and it definitely bonds people physically and emotionally in a way a platonic relationship cannot. A relationship without sex is just a friendship. Having the desire for sex with someone you feel attracted to doesn't make you immoral.
You're generalizing a whole demographic using a very miniscule percentage of the population (the rapists). The majority of men will not rape a woman.
You seem like a bit of a misandrist
@This. ^ Obviously sex is an important part of a romantic relationship, so eventually that does need to enter the conversation with the appropriate boundaries, but the pressure guys put on girls is real.
@SueShe
@TheRealPepperPotts Thanks for your input.
Le me ask you a question:
A vast majority of men (and unfortunately women too) believe that sexual "compatibility" is the prime element when choosing a partner and hat all other elements like character , personality or intellect play a very minor role. However, being with a partner, you are with him/her 24/7 less work time.
Those hours spend not being sexual seem to be totally unimportant. I have never heard of someone separating because of intellect incompatibility. Why is it that sexuality determines whether you stay with a partner or cheat/seek someone else.
Putting it into context, it is as if a city the size of Chicago rules over the entire US population. If you are not from Chicago, then you are unimportant to the rest of the country and what those from Chicago say rule.
Is the opinion of the remaining 331 million US population worth less than the one of roughly 3 million people from Chicago?
So what are you saying, that women don't like sex lol?
And innocent guys are in prison due to false rape accusations.
@blackeagle007 Innocent? really?
If they are in prison it is most likely because they have tried to get into the pants of a girl. That is part of their DNA. If they did not try in the first place and behave like a normal person, they would not be in prison.
@SueShe I don't think sexual compatibility is everything, and I agree that in the context of a romantic relationship it's only a very small aspect. But since we are talking about romantic relationships, sex is relevant. Definitely not the primary element, like you said, but it's still Chicago, even if it's not ruling the rest of the country.
If you are not interested in sex with a life-long partner at some point, it may have more to do with your preferences than a fundamental problem with romantic relationships, which is fine. I agree that men are too pushy and I personally wouldn't have sex until marriage simply because real incompatibility is rare and sex technique can be learned. I wasn't interested in marriage when I was younger, because I was terrified of sex and pregnancy, so I can relate. It took the right person to make me feel safe enough to be that vulnerable.
Do you see what I mean, though? I agree with you that way too much emphasis is placed on sex. I don't agree that sex is irrelevant to romantic relationships, because then that's a platonic friendship.
@TheRealPepperPotts Thanks Mrs. PepperPots for your insight.
To me, sex is just not something that interests me and I find it more disgusting than anything else. I mean, it is ok to have once you want to get pregnant, but that should be limited to the days where you are ovulating. I could bear with that but certainly not with what people understand under "sex" with all the deviant oral and other humiliating processes.
But the majority of women do like to have sex. If you don't, who cares? Why are you even here? Just stay single and sexless. Nobody cares.
@SueShe I see. Sex can be pleasurable with a good partner who is aware and willing to learn. A selfish partner would be awful to deal with, I agree. I didn't want to ever have sex, either, especially when I accidentally stumbled upon an explicit description of it, ha. But I met the right person, and it was amazing. I'm not trying to convince you to change your position, of course. I'm simply explaining that even though it's objectively disgusting, it allows for an unmatched level of vulnerability and bonding that really can't happen any other way. That's why it's so essential to find the right person. But again, it's not everything, and there are so many other areas that are critical.
Guess what, men get raped by fyi
By women
@TheRealPepperPotts Thanks for your insight and for having been civil and I appreciate as most people here lack civility when answering a topic with such a high potential of conflict.
@SueShe It's kind of hard not to have conflict when you demonize an entire population and imply sex is such a bad thing. I would be more okay with you saying a high percentage of men try to coerce women into having sex, but not the majority as that's entirely untrue.
I just searched it up using AI deep research. Approximately 30% of men (29.8%) have coerced women to have sex at some point in their lives. There's no doubt that's a large number. But it's not the "majority" like you claim it is and sex is a driving motivation for many men's lives. There's nothing inherently wrong about desiring sex, both men and women alike.
Thatâs my point as well
@SueShe Of course. I do my best to keep things civil, although I'm certainly not perfect. :) I think it helps a lot to have these conversations to clarify our own thinking. Even if we still disagree in the end on some things, it's good to hear other perspectives. Even if sex is never in your future, I do wish you many good friendships in your life.
I don't know to be honest.. when I was younger I felt guys paid me no notice or made fun of me because everyone was chasing that skinny, slutty, popular type of girl. Now guys seem to notice me and are much nicer but they never make a move. So it does feel I have no chance with the opposite sex unless they are super dorky or undesirable. I could change, but I feel like it will just attract too many of the the shallow type who I have been avoiding all this time and I don't want to do that. LOL so yes I am probably not really interested in most of the opposite gender and most of them are not interested in me :)
Why not approach yourself?
I rather not get rejected to my face, so I will take them not approaching as rejection instead lol.
And you think men would rather be rejected to their face? The only reason we do that is because of societal pressure. Men face the same fear of rejection as women.
I'm not hating on you or anything. Just saying that as long as you have that attitude you won't get what you want.
Men have less emotions so one rejection isn't gonna get them down or haunt them for their whole life lol. Plus I am not generally attractive so why would I approach men, that is just stupid. You are probably right, but honestly I am kind of scared of love and men anyways so it's probably for the best I don't get what I want.
When some women say they only want the top 1% of men (meaning 6 figures, 6 pack, 6 inches) they take them selves form the dating pool. They delude them selves, believing that the men they want, will want them. Thankfully most women aren't like that, Just worthless piece of shit instagram/tiktok influencers.
No I don't think k so. I think everyone is running around looking for mythical perfection and not giving anyone a chance. Instead of trying lots of people sexually (casual) why not try lots of people relationship wise. Who knows... maybe something will actually click.
@Crimsyjo it's also dependant on many factors as you probably know :) and you're right. things like "lust at first sight" or "are they looking for a partner, a partner, or are they just letting their eyes stare into space" đ and a man or a woman happens to be standing at that space đđď¸
I don't know some of us just have gay and ugly faces
Tf is tray
Also not sad lol just throwing back what you said to me from before you old fat skank
Thats how you feel towards me sweetheart I dont need your compassion
im sorry you feel that way, hope you get well
Yes because standards have fallen. Too many people today expect to find something great with minimal effort on their own part. You ain't going to find prime steak at McDonalds. You're not going to find a yacht at Goodwill. There's not going to be a mint condition luxury car at the junkyard.
Would I consider dating the majority of women? No, only because I have my own particular tastes in appearance, mannerisms, fashion styles, behaviors, etc.
Those things alone would rule out a lot of women, not that I'm super picky.
I would learn more about her attitudes, political and spiritual beliefs, culture, values, personality, etc. as we dated and got to know each other.
SueShe
You know how old I am right? Well, I have lived long enough now through all different decades and decade after decade, it's always just as you described. Nothing has changed and because of what Hawk said it just confirms that its probably been the same thing since the beginning of time!!
Sorry for now having answered earlier but you did not tag me.
Since the dawn of times, men have always taken women and used them for their sole pleasure. Women were not asked whether they approved or not. It was the dictatorship of men that prevailed.
This is not just for sexuality but in a great number of situations. When was the first woman given the privilege to be educated? to go to school?
The first university was created in Bologna, Italy in 1088. Women in the US were only allowed higher education in 1837. We are talking about more than 700 years of oppression and why? Because men feared that their supremacy would collapse if women were educated.
Marie Curie was only allowed to attend the University of Paris (Sorbonne) in 1891 and male students tried to oust her because they could not tolerate that she was more intelligent than most of them.
Nope 9 billion people on the planet and somehow someone always seems to find someone close to home to be a soul mate. Means our souls are really really lucky or we just aren't that picky as a species. The math is simple average of 78 years we meet after age five is about 80k. .001% world population. Yet we seem to find people. So I would say the data favored dateable majorities
Honestly, yeah. I'm not attracted to every single woman I come across. And that's not even taking personality into account, narrowing it down even further.
Nah, not necessarily... There's billions of people/women, most of them I'll never meet.. It's foolishness to make such a broad statement.. There's plenty of great women out there.. But at the same time if I have to get through more not so great women to get to a great one, then maybe.. Or maybe they just weren't right for me..
Honestly... it does kind of feel that way sometimes. At least, it feels that way about American women.
A lot of Americans in general are incredibly angry people, and I just don't want to be around it.
if you cut the sex part, most women have nothing to offer in a relationship.
It's true.
@HawkPerception
This question just keeps going and going...
@Dongie yeah seems like it got more attention than usual
Yes.
Itâs called having standards.
The more you respect yourself the more youâll pick your surrounding
And when you that a LOT of people will be undatable
Most of my rejections is from not driving at all and women finds men more attractive behind any wheels
Not the majority I would say but a significant percentage have some ugly beliefs that I find unacceptable lately.
Yes , Not datable to me.
I have certain Criterion in physical and mental criteria that the individual needs to satisfy.. most Don't...
Most people are datable, just not to me!
Because I have dated WAY TOO MANY opposite sex to think that even 1/3 of them are updatable!! In fact they are quite datable
Well if you mean because they are currently in serious relationships or dating it's probably close to true!
Nah, if I was interested I would date most women if they wanted, regardless if I was attracted to them in a sexual way. Dating means you meet, to get to know someone, your not donating to a sperm bank aswell.
I won't accept a low quality, immoral woman as a partner so that means that MOST women are completely unacceptable to me.
I have absolutely no idea. I guess it wouldn't matter anyway, not at my age. Dating is for teenagers.
That is nonsense. There are many people that date at every age.
Its hard to find a good match let alone to decipher one when there is - aka "the Terminator 2 gaze of 'factory search' and Arnie's robotic display is scanning around - it's hard to think "the woman looks hot, but then does some ugly mannerism or has a bad habit of flipping the middle finger" ouch đł or laughing weirdly flippant manners
Lol đ
yes, age and other factors narrows it down.
The worst part is always feeling like having been strung along.
@HawkPerception intriguing polling so far at time of typing, seems more women say no as do men almost closely. I wonder if there's many broke. Hearts out there lol or bitter ones â¤ď¸ đ "but you never talked to me"
Love Actually 2003 represent lol quote above
No. I think most ladies are dateable. That does not mean dateable for me personally.
I apologize for the wording. I meant for you
Like more than 50% oh gosh yes!!!
Yes I agree, most people annoy me tbh,,,
Yes unfortunately
Your heart goes out to folks who found "a hot one" and then it just fizzled out
I am too sexy for sex
Which country?
Haha, I used that image for a specific psychological reason and the fact you asked this means it worked đ
It applies to the country you live in or globally. However you'd like to answer.
By myself? I'm only one man brother.
As humans we all have the desire to mate.
No!!
