There are 2 kinds of regrets
Regretting the things you’ve done
And regretting the things you missed out on
The latter starts early. And it’s a one you can only deal with by not choosing to sit on the sidelines in life
The former can also start early and really depends on how old you were when you made your first big decision:
Moving away - getting in a relationship / marriage - having unprotected sex and becoming a father overnight - drinking and crashing your dad’s car (hopefully in a tree not a person)
These regrets exist to teach you lessons and force you to proactively consider outcomes before doing something stupid
End of the day regrets are normal.
But being consumed by them isn’t.
I'd say it largely depends on the type of person you are and where you're at. I don't consider myself to have ever had deep regrets. I do think in my late 30's I really started to question if I'd done enough. I might've started to question some of my choices. Investing has always been a big part of life strategy. And even though it probably sounds like common sense to anyone who understands compounding interest. I never quite took into account exactly how fast it compounds (especially in an up market) when you start getting into the high 6 figures. Now I see myself starting to surpass many of my peers that I seemed to lag for so long. Now I don't really judge myself by anyone but my own standards, hopes, and dreams. Life is too short to put yourself on that treadmill.
