43 single for 8 years now. What do men think when they hear this? I want to start dating again but curious and nervous?

A few years ago I dated a 44 year old woman who’d been single for 6 years, raising her daughter who was 11 at the time


I kid you not it was the healthiest relationship I ever had.
We had open mature communication
Mutual motivation to tackle the challenges of life
And more sex than I thought humanly possible at the time
I was 24


That all being said we eventually ran out of steam
Because as amazing as it was I knew I couldn’t be a dad to her daughter not when she’s closer to my age than her mother
And I was fresh out of college tackling my first job while she was preparing to deal with menopause.
completely different chapters in our respective lives


I believe single parents should privilege dating other single parents of similar age


It helps with overcoming the challenges of adulting and parenthood when both people have first hand experience


Naturally I’m not saying it they shouldn’t have free will to date someone else it’s just gonna be it’s own challenge so to speak

I have more questions than answers.

But to answer, depends on the men you seek out to date or grow a relationship with.

Mostly likely you'll need to seek those who are also at that stage in life unless you are willing to step into a step motherly role if his children are younger and he won't be an empty nester as you soon will be. Also as certain men are empty nesters and alone they travel or have Hobbies that consume their time.

You need to have a set of goals and your sights for your future and what locations you are willing to move to if things arise and how close you are with your children and how close you want to remain to / with them in location and heartfelt emotions.

Some men will think that since you have had an extended sexual drought, that you are looking for a guy to "make up for lost time." Expect some guys to think that you should give them sex on the first date.

I don't know how to respond for the "now what?" Part but what I can say is there is someone out there for anyone if it is meant.. realistically people might think you are trying to get it on, but there is always the pure at heart as well if matched right...


My overall opinion is don't think much about it, you did very much for watching out for your kids, that is beautiful enough. Think of it like this, what you already done was the main course whatever else is just the dessert.. haha
