Why would a guy text his ex at night and then go on a date with another girl in the morning?

I've seen it done in the VERY SPECIFIC instance where they all belong to the same community. For example:

Guy: "Hey [ex gf], are you going to Karen's party tomorrow? Bc she asked me to go with her. I don't want you to be surprised."

Ex: "Yeah, I'm going. Thanks for letting me know."

It shows the guy is actually a good sort of fellow and that he's genuinely concerned though he wants you both to move on. Just stay neutral and thank him or just say "ok" and don't get chatty or angry etc. It's also a test to see if you'll rage over text, in which case he'd just avoid you completely.

Some people are game playing…. Number one keeping someone interested to see if they can as a means to feed their ego. Two is keeping a backup if they can keep you interested if something doesn’t work out…. They can fall back onto you.

Have boundaries don’t let people text you when sleeping unless it’s a emergency. If someone can’t respect that block them. There isn’t a good reason for texting someone when they know they’re sleeping and it ain’t even important.

That being said a new partner should be allowed to ask that the ex be distanced.
No one should have to deal with the drama that comes from that baggage
