Why would a guy randomly text a girl he used to see after four years of not speaking to each other?

Guys why would you randomly hit up a girl four years later when the last conversation you all had with her telling you that she was in a committed relationship. What’s the motive usually?

Ehhh I’ve done something similar. It’s because I thought we may hit it off. Just thought I may give it another shot. Though she wasn’t in a committed relationship. It’s always a different case.
