To me it depends from school to school and which people are working or going to that school which depends from year to year. Factors like that tends to matter more than if it's private, public or co-owned. (Co-owned schools are schools owned by private persons, but they gets a lot of economical support and extra regulation from the government than regular private schools).
I went to a co-owned private school and several public schools. In the private high school the pupils didn't have to pay for their own equipment, were given free food and allowed to borrow PCs for free because of the government gave it a lot of economical support. In public elementary schools pupils also tends to get free equipment, but in public high schools the government only cover half of the price and therefor pupils pays the other half for their own equipment in addition to pay a school bill. They also buys their own PC.
In addition in all public schools and most private schools both alcohols, drugs, snus and smoking are illegal to do for pupils by law. In the co-owned private (high) school pupils over 18 were allowed to smoke and use snus during the school time because of the government would rather let them do that than continue using illegal drugs. Smoking and snus are unhealthy and dangerous, but drugs like cocaine, meth, heroine etc. are more dangerous and would be more expensive for our universal free healthcare. Since people who had drug addictions tends to choose going to that school, therefor the law was different for the school. Not everyone used drugs and I didn't use anything.
I went there since I had heard people who had difficulty getting friends because of either lack of social skills or shyness liked that school because of there were other "outsiders" going there and the teachers were good. When I went there I was disappointed. The teachers weren't the best one in teaching and talking with the pupils. The P. E. teachers were awful. They didn't know how to handle people who's different although a lot of the pupils had either anxiety, depression or other mental disorders. I didn't have any disorders. I just didn't have many friends at that time and had low self-esteem in P. E. The teachers criticized a lot and didn't seem to care about our perspective. I didn't get any friends there either because of we didn't have anything in common and I didn't understand people's personal problems. I wanted to support them, but didn't know how to do it.
In the public schools it has varied a lot. There were some good and bad teachers. There were also some nice pupils and pupils who behaved badly. What we were taught in public and private school weren't much different. The math, science etc. were basically the same. But in private high school I choose to do art too, but in public high school I only did art for a while. Not all the years because I couldn't do art if I wants to enter the university/college. Elementary and middle school are all the same with basic subjects, but in high school we can choose some courses to prepare us for certain jobs. You could study art if you wanted to become a designer, cooking if you wanted to become a chef, basic subjects to go to college and so on.
I've heard a lot of stories from people going to both public and private schools. It seems like neither of the three categories are better than each other. If they likes a school it's because of good teachers and classmates. If they dislikes the school it's because of they doesn't get along with them. There's even different opinions about Steinerskolen that stands out mostly. How good the building and equipment are also depends from school to school regardless of if it's private or not. Each "province" in Norway have different school budget, not all private school have the same amount of money etc.
Steinerskolen may adapt the teaching to each pupils more than regular schools, but often there's not any big differences between private, public and co-owned schools. They're quite similar because of the teachers usually gets the same training and my country is very egalitarian orientated, so they tries to make the differences between the school as small as possible. The math for instance won't be any different in a private school, even in a scenario where only three pupils go to the class (because the 10 others dropped out of school) and in a regular public school with 30 pupils per class. Even if they've difficulty in learning, there's no guarantee for the teacher changing the teaching methods from the standard book one to a more practical one. The laws says we've to get grades, take the same standard tests etc. regardless of school. The only exception is Steinerskolen because of it's an elementary and middle school. I'm not sure if there's any high school Steiner school either and which rules applies there.
Public because it lets the child grow up in the real world vs the protected bubble of a private school. When they grad the stand a better chance of having somewhat of a clue.
I agree
The uniforms mean nothing to me as we have the mandatory In the UK whether private or public.
But yes PRIVATE, All the schools around my area were deemed unacceptable in all categories so not just educaiton but food standards too. Most of the schools around the UK did, and my education truly suffered because of it I love learning but being In a school where the teachers don't care or pay attention to what Is best for you as a student, makes a lot of children rebel hate school and skip school resulting In failing.
Where as, my mums private school she went to still held up and was deemed very good and past all tests, I would've done anything to go to that school.
I went to a private school, and in comparison it seemed to be a lot better than the public schools that some of my friends went to.
As long as it's not a religious private school
It wasn't religious. It was just a nice private school.
That's good

I begged to be sent to a private school, because even as a kid I hated people. Because I was young and dumb, I didn't know what it actually meant, I just imagined these tiny classes of like 4 people, and being given one on one time with teachers. Finally my guardians swallowed their pride, and asked a rich friend of the family if he could help out.
And thus began my stay at Alabama Christian Academy, the institution I will always remember 'warmly' as the place I lost my faith. The other kids were snobby. One kid was nice to me in the after-school program for a day; then gave me the cold shoulder. apparently he got teased for talking to me. I was friendless and alone for like 3 months, until he happened to 'need' money for a vending machine, and I gave him some, essentially paying him to hang out with me out of desperation. Yay valuable life lessons. It took the rest of the year before his kids started talking to me.
Lunch was catered by restaurants. Sounds great, unless you have no money. Buying lunch was a total status symbol, and dad gave me a wad of cash at the start of the week. I never had the hear to tell him that it wasn't even close to enough, and usually ended up skipping lunch and hoarding the money. On the days Dominoes came, a lot of kids were too good to eat their crusts, so I would if I was hungry. On the days Taco Bell came, I learned I could offer to dump lke 6-7 fire sauces on a taco, and someone would give me one to see the spectacle. More valuable life lessons. I'm gonna do very well as a hobo, thanks ACA!
The lunch-ladies were extortionists. They saw me waiting around the cafeteria, not-eating breakfast, and 'felt bad' for me. Offered me a bowl of cereal I tried to turn down one day, and another the next. Then one comes up to me all indignant, and asks if I ever plan to pay for them... wut?
The teachers didn't like me either. I had very nearly the best grades in the class, for a while. I guess you can't let the poor kid get too full of himself, gotta make him humble. My third year there, instead of moving on to an advanced math with all of my friends, really taking advantage of that esteemed private school education, they put me in a remedial class with all of the other undesirables that I passed with my eyes closed.
Science education, to their credit, was not as bad as one might think. They did teach about the big bang, and the theory of evolution. There was a footnote added to each, however, that both were mechanisms through which god could've created the world.
The daily mandatory sermons were the creepiest. They would typically cover very adult topics, trying to scare us away from drugs and sex.
Wow, that was cathartic, thanks.
Private schools are ridiculous. Most of them are a front because they want to have a christian tilt, in some form or fashion. There's no reason for this. Have your kid go to church with you. Let them celebrate the holidays at home (because NOBODY says merry Christmas at school! xD). Give them a bible, and let them read it in free periods if they want to, just don't mandate it's shoved down their and all of their friend's throats.
It makes so much more sense just to improve public schools. Actually pay teachers, and make it a prestigious job, so the entire population gets a little smarter, a little better off, instead of your dumb, spoiled little brat.
@Kaytiee yeah, they had food from a different restaurant for each day of the week, alongside their vending machines. There were lunchladies, but I don't ever remember them having a "school lunch" option, so I guess they were just there to run the cereal racket.
Very surprised by the votes. Before high school I went to 2 different private schools. They were severely broke, and the education was very poor due to lack of funds. I did go to one private high school my freshman year, and we paid about 14k a year for it. Again same thing very behind in education, poor funding, still using textbooks from the 60s. When I got to public school I was overwhelmed by the intensity of the classes and the immense resources available to me. Now I understand that not all public schools are funded the same but they due follow teaching standards better than a private school either way.
There's no guarantee rich schools, public or private, would be much better than poorer ones. I went to a relatively rich private school funded by the government and yet the teachers weren't the best one. They didn't adapt the teaching methods very well either to each pupils although the school had a lot of resources, very few pupils and a lot of drop outs. In a class with 12 people there were only 5 people left because of the high drop out rate.
From my experience public schools had much better teachers. Yes, we got the equipment free in private school and not in public school. But that didn't make the class much better. Ironically the public school with little money and 30 pupils per class helped me more with the math than the rich school with only 5 pupils in the class.
I'm assuming that private schools are better than public schools. Not sure as I went to a public school. Any school has to be better than the school I went to!
I'd think that private schools are more focused on academics and the success of every student not just the jocks and preps like public school.
Good schools above all, but I think you usually do better in the US with private schooling.
I think it's like that in most place s
Not necessarily in Germany
Here in the Netherlands, I think basically everyone attends public schools, and they are often of very high quality.
For entry into university it's also pretty irrelevant what secondary school you attend nor what your grades were.
So I'll just go for public school. There are few private schools and the public schools are of great quality
I prefair private because u pay the money go get passed every year and u can do nothing basically thats how my high school was and thats how my college is now , girls only show up do make up and talk even on tests and guys talk and play on phones
Everybody stopped giving a F about education these days from what i see
I prefer private school if I'm a student. But if I'm a teacher, I prefer a public school.
How come?
Are you a teacher?
Oh nice. You're the second Turkish girl I met on here who's training to become a teacher
Yeah, you guys need more English teacher apparently
I went to both. Each was unsatisfactory for different reasons. Private school shoved religion down my throat and a lot of the kids were spoiled. Public school had major discipline problems and lower quality education. I was happier in public, but private taught me more valuable skills like standards of behavior, good penmanship, and something called phonics (which seems totally beyond a lot of young people today). So it balances out. I can't choose one.
I studied in public school. It was bad. I wished my parents could afford to send me to a private school. The system in public schools is horribly organised.
Public schools for sure, if I have kids I’d send them there. Unless it’s a really really bad part of town public schools are better for a kids social maturity.
I think they should be private as long as the state doesn't push its garbage in tge school also that they are taught hostory not watered down history. No lgbtq crap or teaching kids sex at age 5
Learn the basics thats fine just dont go in details.
Public. It might not be the best, but at least it's where I feel at home. I'd feel so out of place in a private school.
the private school students that i've men were all A-holes. i don't want to be around them i wouldn't my want my children to be around them
I have been to both and in my experience, there are ups and downs to private. You are more likely to make friends but you are also more likely to be bullied. A lot more stuck up assholes go there and I’m not really sure if it is worth it.
Doesn't matter. White thug terrorists terrorize our schools by terrorizing the place. And I don't see Trump every talking about hat issue like he does black crime. Millions of people have lost their lives over these mass murdering demonic white boys over the years
I went to a public school and a private college I like both
I studied in public school and it was bad. In the future I will let my kids go to private school.
I'd prefer my kids to go to a private Christian school until they are high school age, then public school.
When my kids would be young I wouldn't want them being too influenced by the liberals in the education system that promote homosexuality, and consistently say negative things about straight White men.
I went to a public school, and there was no promotion of LGBTQ, Or negative speaking about straight white men. America needs to get its shit togehter If thats what public school Is like.
Also private catholic/christian schools are one of the easiest place for predators there's been many scandals of the priests or nuns touching little boys, which Is homosexuality.
@Kaytiee The priest thing has been with Catholic schools, not Christian schools from what I know.
The promotion of LGBTQ and anti White man agenda is what I have seen while working in schools myself in California USA, so I know that is an actual thing.
Why are you showing schoolgirls in those outfits? lol
So people click on the post
Good idea lol
Private I chose, so that's how a public school looks like! 😯😇
