To me it depends from school to school and which people are working or going to that school which depends from year to year. Factors like that tends to matter more than if it's private, public or co-owned. (Co-owned schools are schools owned by private persons, but they gets a lot of economical support and extra regulation from the government than regular private schools).
I went to a co-owned private school and several public schools. In the private high school the pupils didn't have to pay for their own equipment, were given free food and allowed to borrow PCs for free because of the government gave it a lot of economical support. In public elementary schools pupils also tends to get free equipment, but in public high schools the government only cover half of the price and therefor pupils pays the other half for their own equipment in addition to pay a school bill. They also buys their own PC.
In addition in all public schools and most private schools both alcohols, drugs, snus and smoking are illegal to do for pupils by law. In the co-owned private (high) school pupils over 18 were allowed to smoke and use snus during the school time because of the government would rather let them do that than continue using illegal drugs. Smoking and snus are unhealthy and dangerous, but drugs like cocaine, meth, heroine etc. are more dangerous and would be more expensive for our universal free healthcare. Since people who had drug addictions tends to choose going to that school, therefor the law was different for the school. Not everyone used drugs and I didn't use anything.
I went there since I had heard people who had difficulty getting friends because of either lack of social skills or shyness liked that school because of there were other "outsiders" going there and the teachers were good. When I went there I was disappointed. The teachers weren't the best one in teaching and talking with the pupils. The P. E. teachers were awful. They didn't know how to handle people who's different although a lot of the pupils had either anxiety, depression or other mental disorders. I didn't have any disorders. I just didn't have many friends at that time and had low self-esteem in P. E. The teachers criticized a lot and didn't seem to care about our perspective. I didn't get any friends there either because of we didn't have anything in common and I didn't understand people's personal problems. I wanted to support them, but didn't know how to do it.
In the public schools it has varied a lot. There were some good and bad teachers. There were also some nice pupils and pupils who behaved badly. What we were taught in public and private school weren't much different. The math, science etc. were basically the same. But in private high school I choose to do art too, but in public high school I only did art for a while. Not all the years because I couldn't do art if I wants to enter the university/college. Elementary and middle school are all the same with basic subjects, but in high school we can choose some courses to prepare us for certain jobs. You could study art if you wanted to become a designer, cooking if you wanted to become a chef, basic subjects to go to college and so on.
I've heard a lot of stories from people going to both public and private schools. It seems like neither of the three categories are better than each other. If they likes a school it's because of good teachers and classmates. If they dislikes the school it's because of they doesn't get along with them. There's even different opinions about Steinerskolen that stands out mostly. How good the building and equipment are also depends from school to school regardless of if it's private or not. Each "province" in Norway have different school budget, not all private school have the same amount of money etc.
Steinerskolen may adapt the teaching to each pupils more than regular schools, but often there's not any big differences between private, public and co-owned schools. They're quite similar because of the teachers usually gets the same training and my country is very egalitarian orientated, so they tries to make the differences between the school as small as possible. The math for instance won't be any different in a private school, even in a scenario where only three pupils go to the class (because the 10 others dropped out of school) and in a regular public school with 30 pupils per class. Even if they've difficulty in learning, there's no guarantee for the teacher changing the teaching methods from the standard book one to a more practical one. The laws says we've to get grades, take the same standard tests etc. regardless of school. The only exception is Steinerskolen because of it's an elementary and middle school. I'm not sure if there's any high school Steiner school either and which rules applies there.
Public because it lets the child grow up in the real world vs the protected bubble of a private school. When they grad the stand a better chance of having somewhat of a clue.
I agree
The uniforms mean nothing to me as we have the mandatory In the UK whether private or public.
But yes PRIVATE, All the schools around my area were deemed unacceptable in all categories so not just educaiton but food standards too. Most of the schools around the UK did, and my education truly suffered because of it I love learning but being In a school where the teachers don't care or pay attention to what Is best for you as a student, makes a lot of children rebel hate school and skip school resulting In failing.
Where as, my mums private school she went to still held up and was deemed very good and past all tests, I would've done anything to go to that school.
I went to a private school, and in comparison it seemed to be a lot better than the public schools that some of my friends went to.
As long as it's not a religious private school
It wasn't religious. It was just a nice private school.
That's good

I begged to be sent to a private school, because even as a kid I hated people. Because I was young and dumb, I didn't know what it actually meant, I just imagined these tiny classes of like 4 people, and being given one on one time with teachers. Finally my guardians swallowed their pride, and asked a rich friend of the family if he could help out.
And thus began my stay at Alabama Christian Academy, the institution I will always remember 'warmly' as the place I lost my faith. The other kids were snobby. One kid was nice to me in the after-school program for a day; then gave me the cold shoulder. apparently he got teased for talking to me. I was friendless and alone for like 3 months, until he happened to 'need' money for a vending machine, and I gave him some, essentially paying him to hang out with me out of desperation. Yay valuable life lessons. It took the rest of the year before his kids started talking to me.
Lunch was catered by restaurants. Sounds great, unless you have no money. Buying lunch was a total status symbol, and dad gave me a wad of cash at the start of the week. I never had the hear to tell him that it wasn't even close to enough, and usually ended up skipping lunch and hoarding the money. On the days Dominoes came, a lot of kids were too good to eat their crusts, so I would if I was hungry. On the days Taco Bell came, I learned I could offer to dump lke 6-7 fire sauces on a taco, and someone would give me one to see the spectacle. More valuable life lessons. I'm gonna do very well as a hobo, thanks ACA!
The lunch-ladies were extortionists. They saw me waiting around the cafeteria, not-eating breakfast, and 'felt bad' for me. Offered me a bowl of cereal I tried to turn down one day, and another the next. Then one comes up to me all indignant, and asks if I ever plan to pay for them... wut?
The teachers didn't like me either. I had very nearly the best grades in the class, for a while. I guess you can't let the poor kid get too full of himself, gotta make him humble. My third year there, instead of moving on to an advanced math with all of my friends, really taking advantage of that esteemed private school education, they put me in a remedial class with all of the other undesirables that I passed with my eyes closed.
Science education, to their credit, was not as bad as one might think. They did teach about the big bang, and the theory of evolution. There was a footnote added to each, however, that both were mechanisms through which god could've created the world.
The daily mandatory sermons were the creepiest. They would typically cover very adult topics, trying to scare us away from drugs and sex.
Wow, that was cathartic, thanks.
Private schools are ridiculous. Most of them are a front because they want to have a christian tilt, in some form or fashion. There's no reason for this. Have your kid go to church with you. Let them celebrate the holidays at home (because NOBODY says merry Christmas at school! xD). Give them a bible, and let them read it in free periods if they want to, just don't mandate it's shoved down their and all of their friend's throats.
It makes so much more sense just to improve public schools. Actually pay teachers, and make it a prestigious job, so the entire population gets a little smarter, a little better off, instead of your dumb, spoiled little brat.
@Kaytiee yeah, they had food from a different restaurant for each day of the week, alongside their vending machines. There were lunchladies, but I don't ever remember them having a "school lunch" option, so I guess they were just there to run the cereal racket.
Very surprised by the votes. Before high school I went to 2 different private schools. They were severely broke, and the education was very poor due to lack of funds. I did go to one private high school my freshman year, and we paid about 14k a year for it. Again same thing very behind in education, poor funding, still using textbooks from the 60s. When I got to public school I was overwhelmed by the intensity of the classes and the immense resources available to me. Now I understand that not all public schools are funded the same but they due follow teaching standards better than a private school either way.
There's no guarantee rich schools, public or private, would be much better than poorer ones. I went to a relatively rich private school funded by the government and yet the teachers weren't the best one. They didn't adapt the teaching methods very well either to each pupils although the school had a lot of resources, very few pupils and a lot of drop outs. In a class with 12 people there were only 5 people left because of the high drop out rate.
From my experience public schools had much better teachers. Yes, we got the equipment free in private school and not in public school. But that didn't make the class much better. Ironically the public school with little money and 30 pupils per class helped me more with the math than the rich school with only 5 pupils in the class.
I'm assuming that private schools are better than public schools. Not sure as I went to a public school. Any school has to be better than the school I went to!
I'd think that private schools are more focused on academics and the success of every student not just the jocks and preps like public school.
Good schools above all, but I think you usually do better in the US with private schooling.
I think it's like that in most place s
Not necessarily in Germany
Here in the Netherlands, I think basically everyone attends public schools, and they are often of very high quality.
For entry into university it's also pretty irrelevant what secondary school you attend nor what your grades were.
So I'll just go for public school. There are few private schools and the public schools are of great quality
I prefair private because u pay the money go get passed every year and u can do nothing basically thats how my high school was and thats how my college is now , girls only show up do make up and talk even on tests and guys talk and play on phones
Everybody stopped giving a F about education these days from what i see
I prefer private school if I'm a student. But if I'm a teacher, I prefer a public school.
How come?
Are you a teacher?
Oh nice. You're the second Turkish girl I met on here who's training to become a teacher
Yeah, you guys need more English teacher apparently
I went to both. Each was unsatisfactory for different reasons. Private school shoved religion down my throat and a lot of the kids were spoiled. Public school had major discipline problems and lower quality education. I was happier in public, but private taught me more valuable skills like standards of behavior, good penmanship, and something called phonics (which seems totally beyond a lot of young people today). So it balances out. I can't choose one.
I studied in public school. It was bad. I wished my parents could afford to send me to a private school. The system in public schools is horribly organised.
Public schools for sure, if I have kids I’d send them there. Unless it’s a really really bad part of town public schools are better for a kids social maturity.
I think they should be private as long as the state doesn't push its garbage in tge school also that they are taught hostory not watered down history. No lgbtq crap or teaching kids sex at age 5
Learn the basics thats fine just dont go in details.
Public. It might not be the best, but at least it's where I feel at home. I'd feel so out of place in a private school.
the private school students that i've men were all A-holes. i don't want to be around them i wouldn't my want my children to be around them
I studied in public school and it was bad. In the future I will let my kids go to private school.
I have been to both and in my experience, there are ups and downs to private. You are more likely to make friends but you are also more likely to be bullied. A lot more stuck up assholes go there and I’m not really sure if it is worth it.
Doesn't matter. White thug terrorists terrorize our schools by terrorizing the place. And I don't see Trump every talking about hat issue like he does black crime. Millions of people have lost their lives over these mass murdering demonic white boys over the years
I went to a public school and a private college I like both
I'd prefer my kids to go to a private Christian school until they are high school age, then public school.
When my kids would be young I wouldn't want them being too influenced by the liberals in the education system that promote homosexuality, and consistently say negative things about straight White men.
I went to a public school, and there was no promotion of LGBTQ, Or negative speaking about straight white men. America needs to get its shit togehter If thats what public school Is like.
Also private catholic/christian schools are one of the easiest place for predators there's been many scandals of the priests or nuns touching little boys, which Is homosexuality.
@Kaytiee The priest thing has been with Catholic schools, not Christian schools from what I know.
The promotion of LGBTQ and anti White man agenda is what I have seen while working in schools myself in California USA, so I know that is an actual thing.
Why are you showing schoolgirls in those outfits? lol
So people click on the post
Good idea lol
Private I chose, so that's how a public school looks like! 😯😇
I'm pretty sure St. Trinians was a public school, and I don't think I'd survive it!
Private schools are better generally speaking. The standard of behavior and education is much higher.
Public schools and private schools are the same things in the UK where you have to pay.
State schools are the free schools here
There isn't really a single difference between the two in my country so...
I don't know how private schools are, but there are good public schools, so i guess both.
Private. Public school of necessity must cater to the lowest common denominator.
Private. Private schools aren't infected with government propaganda.
Well, I only went to public schools so how can I know which one I'd prefer? lol
I think private is better cause it instills structure in the student which is needed in today’s society but they are secluded from everything
Private. Tends to have a higher quality of education.
Voted B. I was privately educated. I loved school.
I think it would depend on the country. In my country i definitely prefer private schools. Public schools here are shit.
@Kaytiee lol
ALL schools should be private.
Why?
@curiousnorway
I don't know where to begin.
Every private school would have a manifesto that the parents would read and sign.
If you want your kids to be able to celebrate Christmas while at school, then just send them to a school that respects that wish.
If you want your children to be brainwashed by the political ideology of the freak running the class, then send them to that school.
If you want your children to take a bunch of bullshit classes that will absolutely do nothing to help get them a job, then send them to that school.
If you want your children to focus on math, science and engineering, then send them to that school.
The current system is insane. It's riddled with a bunch of loser, pedophiles that have tenure and can't be fired.
I mean, I kind of see what you mean.
And Public Schools are supposed to respect your First Amendment Rights but they do not, so they might as well be private schools.
Private schools, but paid for by the taxpayers. That's what we need in America.
But than they wouldn't private.
Yes they would be. They would be private and with private teachers, but the funding would come from the public. It's called, "school vouchers." It's a concept that's been kicked around for a long time, but the teacher's union is fighting it tooth and nail.
If YOU had the teaching credentials, you could open a school where you live. Maybe you could only take in 4 students, but at 10K per kid, you could do quite well. This concept is a liberal's worst nightmare.
But funding for private schools come from the parents of the children who are enrolled. I was gonna say, "Why should I pay to educate someone else's kids", but we're already technically doing that.
But are you like talking about private schools being subsidized by the government. I. E. Tax Payer Money. And how much would a tax payer need to pay?
But 4 kids? No one is gonna pay for only 4 kids.
I don't know. I'm still a bit confused as to what a "school voucher" is or how such a concept would even work, but it seems to have passed in Tennessee.
Public schools cost a fortune for the tax payers. Just take the tax payer money, and give the parents a school voucher for each kid. Why couldn't you take in four kids to teach? People "home school" their kids all the time. But instead of that, they'd have them go to your tiny school. You wouldn't have a baseball field, but who gives a fuck. How did that ever become part of education? Oh, and please leave out the Greek Mythology. lol Let them study imaginary shit on their own time. Just teach them the core classes, and kick ass. And I seriously doubt you'd need a metal detector at your front door checking for weapons. If you have a problem child in your midst, just kick them out and don't jeopardize your school's good reputation.
I actually agree with you for the most part.
PE is pretty useless as well as most people stop exercising after high school anyways.
I completely agree about only teaching the core courses and we definitely need a better geography curriculum.
It should be like this in college too. Who needs "food and nutrion" or "religious studies"?
I can research religions on my own.
I mean, there are some rural areas that have small schools
I was actually afraid to follow you, cuz I thought you were a Liberal. lol
Rich liberals enroll their kids in elite, private schools. But they want all the poor kids to go to fucktard public schools. That's the best place for them to become liberal, mindless sheep.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ty7WU872Lk
Pretty much but rich conservatives too.
My high school history teacher was in a school in Arkansas and she asked one of the moms, "How come there aren't any colored kids here?"
"I pay good money to make sure my kids don't go to school with a bunch of niggers."
Currently the costs of sending a child to public school in the US average around $10,000/year (depending on state), with only a small percentage of that income going to teachers for public schools, so a voucher system would provide the parents an educational voucher worth that amount that they can use to spend to send their children to any school of their choice.
It's kind of a divisive issue but it makes sense to me first and foremost from an ethical perspective. There is a hypocrisy when wealthy politicians who oppose education vouchers send their children to private schools while opposing giving others the same opportunities. I don't even see it as an economic issue first and foremost so much as an ethical one.
@SuperTroll
Not only that, but I bet private schools could do it for less money.
I imagine the costs could reduce across the board while overall quality improves as well, and perhaps more emphasis on vocational education becoming the norm.
A lot of my interest in the subject comes from my sister having been a former public school teacher in the US. After she graduated, she was inspired to teach the most troubled kids in rough neighborhoods. Then she discovered she had very little creative control over the classroom, even with almost all of her students being far behind where they should be. "Just teach the curriculum" was the motto.
And she tried to bring up the issues with the school board but to no avail, while finding there was a huge preference for tenured teachers with seniority even if they were some of the worst teachers (objectively speaking in turns of performance) in the school.
She ended up teaching at a private school after that and became so much happier there, and is now a professor at a university.
@SuperTroll
It's funny when this debate comes up, and the public teachers claim that only the government can teach properly. So the most useless slugs teaching, are saying they're the best. I would love to see the voucher system put into place. The public schools would all be empty.
I was actually gonna say, the Left doesn't want this to pass because it would be the end of Liberal indoctrination.
That and the end of hefty union campaign donations. The teacher's union is terrified of this. They don't care about the kids, they just want the union dues. The only argument the left can come up with, is that only the government can teach kids properly. Yeah, and if you believe that, I have a few bridges for sale. We all know how adept the government is at running things.
Don't even get me started on Unions.
I know. California teachers were furious when Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted to start paying teachers based on the performance of their students. They wouldn't let him pass vocational schooling either.
All they know how to do is complain. EVERY year they go on strike, than make students attend for two extra weeks in summer, even though WE aren't the ones who told them to protest. Teachers shouldn't be allowed to have unions.
My great grandfather would roll over in his grave, if he knew that Japanese auto manufactures were building plants in America. While the American auto manufacturers are fleeing America like rats on a sinking ship, the Japanese are laughing at us. They build the cars here to avoid the hefty tariffs on their cars coming into the country. They pay an extremely handsome wage, but yet it pales in comparison to the wage the union demands of American auto companies.
I recently Googled how many "American" cars are being made in Mexico. It was staggering.
It's mostly the parts that are made in Mexico.
My dad stopped buying Mexican parts, 'cuz they kept breaking.
Why would he roll over? Did he fight in WWII?
by the way. What race are you? 'Cuz your legs and feet look Asian. LOL
I'm white. No, he never went to war, he just believed in buying American. And entire American cars are built in Mexico. The list was shocking.
Oh okay. Must be the lighting. Though I started to think after some of your posts that you're white.
Southern girl I'm guessing.
You have cute toes. LOL
They build them down there because it's cheaper, but those cars are shit. Bush actually outsourced a lot of manufacturing jobs, I guess Trump has been trying to bring them back.
Another reason they do it is because we don't want to pollute our own atmosphere. But in a way, it's kind of insulting too, because it's making it seem like Americans are incapable of doing these jobs.
One British Muslim girl angered me, because I posted that "British citizens send in 100 applications and can't get jobs, but Muslim immigrants are given jobs right away."
She said, "because we have skills that British people don't."
What skills could those possibly be? Brits have the best universities in the world.
You're saying British people don't know how to do factory jobs?
But no? Muslims don't want factory jobs. They wanna work as doctors and engineers.
I hate to say it, but I think Europe is doomed, and America isn't far behind.
I feel the same way, unless there is a serious political shift
Western Europe at least.
Eastern Europe will still remain intact.
People are right that this is an invasion. They bitch about Islamaphobia, so why do do they stay there? I wouldn't live in a place where I'm not welcome. If they want to practice their religion and culture, they can go to a Muslim country. Why are they immigrating to Western countries. This is not even about economic migration, because there are many rich Muslim countries they could go to.
This is about spreading their religion and ideology. I heard white are already a minority in London. But at least the Indians and Caribbean blacks are imposing their culture on locals or harming them, at least not to the extent that Muslims are.
I know. Trump hasn't done much to subdue the PC culture. It's only getting worst. This country is becoming unlivable. If I could, I would leave. I'm sick and tired of this PC bullshit.
If a Democrat wins the next election or even the one after, our country is fucked. But honestly, I don't think anyone can fix this mess. It has become a cultural trend, which will take several generations to reverse.
Private
How come?
Cause I went to one and I think as a general rule the quality of education is better.
If your parents are paying a shit ton of money, it'd better be better
Good point lol
Public school I went to
Parochial schools give an added value.
obviously private if anything
In the uk there's not much of a difference.
I went to a private primary school and public high school
@Kaytiee Ofcourse it would because ones controlled by the government the other by private funding government can't control private institutions. Failed is short for we want to do something to it to get more money off kids.
public. maybe a dog eat dog. but you learn
private since u dont have to do shit there
I went to private school
Probably a good private. If I had the money.
I went to both and personal i prefer private
Personally*
I vote private.
