If you have a car that gets decent mileage, maybe more than 35 mpg or a hybrid that gets better mileage in the city, then you can make a lot more money than someone driving an SUV. But, also, depending on the market, customers can make or break you with the tip. If customers all decided they don’t want to tip you anymore, no drivers would be left. The other thing is you can have really good days as a driver and make $40/hr for 4-5 hours and then you can have days where you only make $10 in an afternoon.
I used to deliver pizza part time for Dominos, and typically made $10-$12/hr. The best part was the hours were very flexible, which was very important because I had a full time job at the time too.
**I held those jobs Pre-Uber etc.
@malwins
It would depend on what day of the week I worked/how long. My goal was 15 runs per shift, which would get me @$50. Everyone thinks Friday and Saturday night are the best times to be a driver, not true. There is an army drivers working those nights (like 30) so that's a lot of down time waiting for your turn in the rotation.
My best shift was always Sunday. Best tip ever? $50
I know people here that do deliveroo and ubereats as an extra and they usually do well out of it
Probably depends on the area.

it's a hellhole of a job. i got into so many fights and blowouts with restaurant owners and managers who have massive egos on them. it got to a point i had to make a black list of places i won't pick up from. then the csa at doordash are complete jerkoffs and sometimes they'll nickel and dime you on the pay.
sometimes they'll give you 2-5 dollars on jobs other times between 6-12 if you're lucky
but like i said the biggest problem with that job are the restaurant owners and managers who are complete pricks. and that's not counting all the maniacs on the road driving especially during rush hour. the job isn't worth it
@spartan55 not having the food ready on time
@spartan55 and the excessive waiting and their nasty attitudes acting like i work for them when i don't and some even had the ordacity to expect me to prepare some of the minor items of food for them when it wasn't my job
@spartan55 i actually had a couple who expected me to grab food out of the freezer and drinks out of the freezer when they were standing less than 6" inches from it and had them expect me to get the drinks and call the customer when they didn't have certain foods in stock which i blantantly refused to do on numerous times and told those fat fucking slobs for them to do their own damn job themselves and sometimes they would forget certain items in an order or the constant swearing between me and the managers and owners of those restaurants which was why i created a blacklist because of those managers and owners
@spartan55 i walked out of restaurants several times swearing and giving the double middle finger to the owners and managers whenever me and them went at it and my supervisors at doordash would get into it with them as well and sided with me numerous times. the only problem i had with doordash as a company besides the nickle and diming pay was the employees themselves who were lateral to my position and weren't supervisors or managers and i told them to fuck off and to connect me with a damn manager and they were forced to and i told my manager what was happening even with them and they got in trouble as well. doordash employees are jerkoffs but the supervisors and managers are ok. the restaurant employees most are ok but the managers and owners are jerkoffs
@spartan55 it's the type of job you cringe at and makes you want to vomit. the only positive about it is making your own hours and what restaurants you pick up from and that's it nothing else. the pay is lousy to mediocre, the restaurant owners and managers are sickening to deal with, constant rough traffic, no parking or hard to find parking, doordash employees are jerkoffs on a power trip, it's complete shit the job
@spartan55 it's the type of job you cringe and want to vomit thinking about doing
@spartan55 what pissed me off the most was when the managers and owners act like i work for them and i don't because their egos can't understand and comprehend i work for dd not them
@spartan55 and i'm left wondering if they treat non employees like myself like this completely awful how do they treat their actual employees? even worse? most likely
You won't get rich from it. I thought about driving for Uber when I was between jobs, but was dissuaded by several Uber drivers I had telling me of drunk passengers hurling in their cars. If you have a very efficient car you might do OK.
I suppose you can make about a 1000 extra a month if you do it on the side, but seriously. Is that a lot or worth it? Really depends on your current financial situation.
My nephew does Doordash. Easily makes $150-$200 a day. But he also lives in a large metropolitan area.
It depends on how often you do it and if you get good tips. So don't expect a lot of money just doing it when you feel like it.
If you know how to get the right jobs you can. I used to drive for zTrip. I never figured it out but some days I was pulling out my teeth for a few bucks; and other days it was raining cash.
