But community colleges near me don't even offer that career path...
I'm moving and about 15 minutes away from my new home is a college of funeral directing but that seems kind of expensive... I will have to get student loans 😔
What state (if US) are you in?
Many states offer licensing as a Funeral Director Apprentice. Apprenticeship credit often counts toward education required for licensing as a funeral director, and can save you some money. Another option would be to contact one or more of your local funeral directors and inquire about apprenticeship. Some states offer financial assistance with mortuary arts & sciences education through the state Mortuary Board. One of your established funeral homes in the area may be able to point you in the right direction.
To respond more directly to your question, $18K sounds a little high to me, but I don't know where you live. Schooling is expensive no matter where you are. If you're seriously interested in death care, I doubt you'll have trouble finding work and good pay. The demand for funeral directors and mortuary staff will increase (at least in the US) in the foreseeable future.
I guess that if you ask for student loans you'll take a lot of time to pay everything back. So @josephinelcajon is right in my opinion.
Anywhere you go now is going to cost. Education is a business more so than enhancement. They push it because the government gets there cut, school gets there cut and lots of it. Best way is to work, and gain experience in the field you want to go into. If you have or make connections and get it.. it’s more valuable.
Work smart and backwards go to the funeral home you want to work at and ask them to mentor you! You may find that a different position may suit you better or they may offer to pay for some collage or at bear min will help you chose your best collage.
great answer, it's practical.

18k is a lot of money in general but Im not sure how it compares in the long run. If you want to do it I say do it.
I think it’s a good career choice. It’s not like it’s a dead-end job. Plus you can get some killer skills in funeral directing.
I don't think it's a lot of money if that's what you really wanna do
I imagine @SaoirseS might have some information.
I don't know, that doesn't seem to bad.
