Have you ever been turned down for your dream job?

Have you ever been turned down for your dream job? How did you react? Did you ever get another chance at it or did you re-evaluate what you wanted?

I was back in 2013 and it was very upsetting for me. I tried applying for a few other similar jobs, but nothing came of it. As time went on, I found another job and eventually started rethinking what I wanted.

My wife moved here for a job with the same organization, but in a different department. With what she has relayed to me, I think I dodged a bullet 😆

My dream was to attend the US Naval Academy and become a naval aviator. When I was nominated to the Academy, but not appointed, I considered Navy ROTC. After a complete physical, as well as an eye exam which came just short of having my eyeballs removed from their sockets and studied, I was told that my vision would not qualify me Group 1 unrestricted flight status.

I was quite upset, and there wasn't the opportunity for a second chance. At that time, eye surgery was not allowed, so the dream needed then there. No F-14 Tomcat for me.

Yes, I interviewed to be CIO at a fancy private college in Maine. My youngest was just starting college and he would be able to go for free. I really liked this place and could really picture myself doing the job. My wife and I started looking at real estate after I had the second interview. They were telling me why I should want to work for them and it sounded like I was going to be hired. I was really pumped up about it. When I found out they picked somebody else I was crushed.

I was turned down for a very shit reason. Thankfully my dream job is IT work, not a specific company.

I was hired by a restaurant that I really wanted to work at, and then when I told them my availability. They didn't hire me. They wanted me to work a day that I absolutely couldn't work.
