I am not in university anymore and already graduated but what I learned in some important classes was… The PowerPoints and homework will only prepare you a little bit for an exam. It is more of a mystery of what is going to be on the exam. Why would a professor give the same oversimplified and mediocre PowerPoints year after year even though the class average was below a 70 meaning most students were failing but still refuse to change the PowerPoints or class lectures? Meaning the PowerPoints and class lectures are somewhat useless because the exam is going to be way harder and cover more topics than taught.
-my theory is that a professor can’t pass everyone and would get into trouble with admin. Think about it. The school would lose money by doing that. This is a business. You want students to repeat classes to keep them enrolled and spending more money.
I don't agree with that theory at all. If you want to talk big business, it wouldn't work long term. If the stats show more failure than success for the students, it lowers the quality of the school in the eyes of the public. The school wouldn consequently lose students, because what parent would want to enrol their kids in a seemingly shitty school? That would actually be a bad strategy.
But when it comes to the lessons taught... they're only a part of the work. Most and the majority of the material to study is for the student to go look up and research. Not everything can be taught in class, but you have an outline, you have some material and sources... you then have to take the initiative to search for more information.
Education isn't solely about given you all the info on a platter. It's also about teaching students to dig more, to look for more and go beyond what they see in class. Y'know, put in the work.

No, I’m telling you. Not every single university operates the same. Some universities are on a business plan to make money. The teachers are taught to grade based on a bell curve where the mean or average is 70 or less. Unless the professors is tenured then they don’t care.
Yes, I'm sure not every university operates the same way. My question is how do you know that they're purposely making exams difficult so fewer students pass? Do you have something to compare it to?
Teachers are only supposed to test on material that was actually covered in class or assigned as homework. Was there a textbook that students were supposed to read and study that contained the material on the test?
