What do y’all think about Walmarts closing their stores?

So far, Portland and Chicago Walmarts have closed their doors. People have wanted Walmart to do this for awhile and they finally got what they wanted. Also, employees have lost their jobs.
How happy does that make you? Do you want this continue and have more employees lose their jobs?

Here's what Walmart had to say:

"Walmart announced Tuesday that next week it will close four poor-performing stores out of the eight it operates in Chicago. Three of the locations are located in Chicago’s South and West Side neighborhoods, which are predominantly minority and have long struggled with grocery and retail access. One of the stores is in Chicago’s North Side, which is predominantly White and more affluent.

Walmart said Tuesday that these four stores lose tens of millions of dollars a year and that annual losses have nearly doubled in the last five years. The company said it tried several strategies to improve the stores and invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the city. “Unfortunately, these efforts have not materially improved the fundamental business challenges our stores are facing".

Would you like them to continue to operate and just write off the losses against other gains in order to keep people employed? I'm not saying that's a bad idea, but just asking if that's what you're suggesting? Should they be ok with a less profitable bottom line in order to give people jobs in the local community, because they're Walmart and can ultimately afford it?

I'd bet other stores have or will close as well, especially small stores.

This is the policy of "reparations". Until they are paid, there is a cultural rebellion, supported and promoted by Democrats and their policies of soft on criminals, hard on police, and promoting behaviors that destroy cities. Such behavior is propagated within the culture and community, add to it some element of cost of living struggles and depravation and you get collapse.

I've seen a whole city go down, bailed out by tax payers.

"we"? the companies will make that decision based upon economics. All that will be left is government subsidized operations, if any. Likely solution is Govt will give incentives to keep stores open, in effect, subsidizing bad economic behavior. It's continued social re-distribution.
It's all solvable by changing behavior, but no-one will stand up to the lobby controlling the minds.

They are only closing stores in democrat run cities. Wal Mart is sick of shoplifters that don't get prosecuted. It is a shame that people will have to shop for food and other things someplace else but if they are sick of this crap they should vote for somebody else.

In my county, there are three Walmarts. They all tried to be open 24/7, but that didn't fly. The skeleton crew at night couldn't keep up with the theft. I shop at Walmart because I can't afford to pay triple at a fancy store. And believe it or not, I live on the red half of the state. I can't even imagine the chaos on the blue half of the state.

It’s not just Wal-Mart. Walgreens closed in L. A. or San Francisco from what I heard. Like another person said here, it’s all in Democrat run cities that refuse to prosecute shoplifting. I don’t like it, but reality is that the stores are losing so much money in those cities that they can’t afford to keep them open.

you can't run a business anywhere in the world where there is too much "bad diversity". there are almost no exceptions. Multinational companies have lifted literally billions out of poverty by locating manufacturing facilities anywhere in the globe where there is cheap labor - with the exception of Africa

A company has lots of reasons for closing stores. In Chicago, all of the Walmart stores, taken together, were losing money. A company can't stay in business like that.

The SCOTUS rules on constitutionality of things. Abortion isn’t in the constitution so they kicked it back to the states like it should be. The majority of voters in your state doesn’t want it.
