Did you know it was invented by John Duns in the 12th century who thought a pointy hat would channel information into your head. He had quite a few followers who wore the Duns caps and were obviously ridiculed, hence Duns became Dunce.

The problem with it in schools is once you label a kid a dunce they usually give up trying to learn as they think themselves incapable.

We are not allow to. It’s considered corporal punishment.

I never saw a dunce cap. I was just at the tail end of rat tans. I got one in 3rd grade and the practice was ended shortly after that. Kids need discipline but that is not the way to do it.

To those asking "what is a dunce cap", I honestly don't know if it ever happened in real life. In cartoons from the 40s and 50s. A school child, who got the lowest grades, was given a pointy cap with the word dunce on it and made to sit in the corner.
