Have you ever worked at a toxic company, and what made it toxic?

For sure. A culture obsessed with politics was probably the worst environment I worked in. At the same time, they were the most aggressive on the sales side that I've ever seen. To the point of pissing off potential customers regularly. They told everyone that we were all salesmen, even the devs and product feedback team that I wàs on. Everything became transactional. And salaries were all over the place. A new hire with less experience would be doubling her managers salary and doing 1/4th of the work. It made no sense.

Any advice on how to suss out whether a company is toxic before accepting a position?

Look at their social media for red flags. If they don't have any, look for front line employees to talk with for the inside scoop.

What are examples of red flags on social media? What are a couple questions you would ask?

Political stuff mostly. Or really childish behavior.

Questions need to be focused on how supportive management is, how much they push for work outside of working hours, if people are harassed for being sick or taking vacation time. If there is high turnover with workers and managers. If leadership makes false promises.

I do now, I try and do exactly what Advisor Smith did,,,

My Section Leader is just basically a nasty person, we can go a whole shift and never say a word to each other,,,

I am now being directly managed by the Deputy Manager, they have told me if I need anything talk to them (implying don't talk to SL lol),,,

The job itself is alright actually, I try to be 1. Diligent, 2. Gracious, 3. Kind (especially to myself),,,

And keep copious notes of any attempted injustice!!!

And there some very nice people who I tend to connect with, I'm in a job role that has responsibilities towards the whole operation, if the person asking me to do stuff is a twat, I refer them to management, if they are one of tribe of nice people the job is as good as done!,,,
