Using these guys language by their definition of what a high value man is a high school coach is like someone who failed to become a pro athlete.

High School coaches are also teachers. They are college educated and often have gone to graduate school in their field for the subjects they teach during the normal work day. It’s pretty common for science teachers to be coaches of sport teams due to understanding of topics like anatomy, health/nutrition, physics, etc. which come in handy in the sports world. They work as normal salaried teacher’s and are sometimes department heads. They get paid extra money above their teaching salary to teach sport’s teams after school. It’s a middle class income, but often they are highly educated, experienced with working with children and playing a father figure to many kids, they have leadership skills and confidence. They might also stay physically fit to set an example for students. They work long hours during the shool year, but get a lot of vacation time as well. So if that’s the sort of thing that appeals to you, then that’s what you get. Over time they can move on to become a department dean in a school or the principal as they take on more responsibility. In the right location, they can get half their house paid off by HUD over 3 years significantly reducing their housing expenses due to the good neighbor next door program, they can often get free health and dental insurance if they stay within healthy bounds, they can get a pension in addition to social security and whatever investments they have made in their life when they retire putting them in an easy position later than life when compared to most middle class occupations.

Well, I high school coach, Al Bevilacqua, just died this past week and his death made national news. I just missed him from being a high school coach for me... (He moved on to college just as I was entering high school.)

A good coach requires teaching skills. Not all athletes have those skills; just because you can play the game doesn't mean you can explain it to others.
