Practice and knowledge, really.
Consider chess, games, a movie, makeup, new people, whatever you want. When new to it every single piece of information needs to be taken in, processed and worked through. Once you have done similar scenarios a hundred times? You'll passively handle the vast majority and only need to spend energy on one or two things.
For example if I am aiding some company with taxes I really only need a few pieces of information. After that even if we go over fifty other things it simply getw categorized as in order or not. So at the end we might have covered 80 items, but I have in reality only had to take note of 4 of them. Because the rest lined up I could repeat all 80. It will seem very impressive. The first few times you are doing 80 items and it is overwhelming. A year later, you're doing 4.
Games or makeup are the same! You have a basic gameplan. A routine. An idea lf how things should be done. And then in reality you only adapt to a few things even though you are doing dozens. Oh a pimple there? Fix that. The evil other player did that? Fix that. Then back to the 20 steps you know.
Failing all of that, practice learning. Some basic mnemonics and alike can do wonders for your ability to absorb information. You can, quite easily, double your memory retention in a month. Assuming you start from no techniques used.
But don't you have the dillemas when you could do all it but in same time actually happening real things.. real serious unfair things in the world.. and you just stay there to focus on chess generally saying... and I don't mean you specifically*
You have to accept that you can't know everything. The first step is to be deliberately selective about what you consume.
