I have my uses / talents but... as Clint Eastwood once said, " a man's gotta know his limitations".
Absolutely! Being able to check out a career or learning about it and knowing it isn't for you saves so much time and energy!
I would never limit myself with that terrible attitude.
Hard agree! A job is not lobster at a buffet
I’d gently disagree.
In my 20+ years of coaching, I’ve seen many people “realistically” rule out paths they’d actually thrive in—because their picture of the job (or of themselves) was incomplete.
You don’t need to try everything, but:
- Most careers have many niches and work styles.
- Skills and preferences evolve with experience.
- Imposter feelings often get mislabeled as “realism.”
A better approach: run small experiments—informational interviews, short courses, side projects, internships—before deciding you’re not cut out for something. That’s realism grounded in evidence, not self‑doubt.

it's more of a choice...
but I've always known I could never be a doctor...
I don't like to shake hands and the moment someone sneezes... I just want to leave immediately
and it's not just my mild germophobia, but also with the hints of mild OCD...
there's just no way I'll enjoy being a medical doctor
Agree, some people should not be doctors
Agreed
I completely agree.
