Oh No, the Sun may not Incinerate the Earth in 5 million years, what do we do now?

Question

Conventional theory is that, as the sun runs out of fuel in about 5 million years, it will expand into a red giant, incinerate the Earth, and then collapse into a white dwarf. Recent studies, however, now theorize that the Earth may survive that. Though Mercury and Venus will be toast, the third rock from the sun (planet Earth) may survive, though life on it may be difficult. Knowing this, what should we do now? Please leave an opinion.

Calm down, calm down. You have an “M” where there should be a “B”. The sun will run out of fuel 5 billion years. But, it will grow 10% brighter in 1 billion years and blow off our atmosphere and boil our oceans. Bit that is still better than 5 million years.

You see this is the fallacy of people wanting yo live forever. Things change over time… a LOT.

Anyway, sit back and relax as Elon Musk has plenty of time to find a new planet where we can all be unhappy snd dissatisfied just like here in Earth.

Don't Panic! Never fear. In 1.45 to 5 billion years plate tectonics stop and we will all die due to that instead. Everything will get eroded down to nothing and the magnetic shield will collapse.

It might be well before then, because a super continent may form which will pause tectonics

I have got my money on the next ice age finishing us off. In the last two, the CO2 levels nearly got down to levels where C3 plants will die. Without plants we die.

Astrophysically, this changes almost nothing about what matters for us.

Even if Earth’s rock survives, the surface will be sterilized long before the red-giant phase—oceans boiled away, atmosphere stripped. Human timescales are thousands of years at best, not billions.

So, what do we do now?

1. Focus on problems within the next 100–500 years: climate, biodiversity, nuclear risk, AI, inequality.
2. Build long-term capacity: education, science, robust institutions.
3. Invest in space capability as a civilizational “insurance policy,” but not as an excuse to neglect Earth.

It's ok, within 1 billion years the sun will be 10% hotter. Which is why i laugh about global warming. Because LONGTERM it's like Thanos, INEVITABLE. In 1 billion years it'll boil away the oceans. So we'll have to find a new home by then anyhow. Ya know, that is assuming Jesus still hasn't come back yet.
