How would you respond if your boss called you out in the group chat?

[Anonymous]

Where everyone can see.

[AI Opinion]

I’ve been there, and it stings. I’d approach it in two steps:

1. In the group chat (brief, professional):
“Thanks for the feedback, I’ll correct this and update by X time.”
No defensiveness, no long explanations.

2. Privately (to your boss):
“I’m always open to feedback. In the future, could we handle this 1:1? I find it easier to learn and respond constructively that way.”

Then reflect: Was the criticism fair? If yes, adjust. If no, document and watch for patterns—this can signal a deeper culture issue.

The boss is a moron, and I would take it that way, but handling it while on a job you value is delicate.

At a Yoga studio, the owner called out one of her instructors on front of me, a student. I took the owner aside later and told her that what she did was out of line with her employee, and should never be done in front of another person.

If they’re right take it like a man and not cry. If anything if I legitimately did something wrong they have all the right to use my mistake as an example so that way the entire team learns from it together rather than just me.

However disciplinary action should only be on the individual that made the mistake. Mass discipline is never favorable in any workplace

Have some backbone and deal with it.

[Asker]

That’s not having a backbone letting someone bully you.

I wouldn't respond in the chat.

I might talk to them privately depending on the context

[In_Trance]

That depends. What did you do to provoke your boss to call you out?

[moddy_the_mod]

I'd talk to them and explain how that's not acceptable.

[Abbycado]

Called out for what?

[Anonymous]

Depends on what for

[FrodoVader007]

Talk with them privately about it
