I thought a lot of people might be in this situation not because of their pay, or their job, but because of external factors. It came up when I was talking with a guy at work at his wits end because his homeowner's insurance tripled.

Now he either gets a raise, or sells his house and looks for another job.

Not necessarily competition wise, just hard in terms of responsibility of the role

A lot of office type work are allowing people to work from home now instead of having them commute to an actual location since the pandemic days.

I personally don’t see the issue as long as the work gets done right? What do you think?

If you don’t work an office job just answer as if you did. Which would you prefer?

3 months ago I quit my job at a gas station because the management treated us like crap and I was getting paid 10 dollars an hour (yes I asked for raises I started at 9 dollars). Eventually I quit because the customers were rude and I put my 2 weeks notice. Now that time has passed there is nobody else hiring in town because I live in a small town and when my mom asked me if I'm gonna go back I told her that I'd rather be homeless than go back (which is true). Just working paycheck to paycheck with inflation and low pay makes it not worth it to me. Thoughts?

I (30m) was a direct support professional most of my 20s. Basically I worked in group homes caring for and teaching lifeskills to intellectually disabled individuals. I went to college and got a degree in psychology and took a supervisor position. I worked that for around 9 to 10 months and realized it wasn't for me and the amount of work involved was insane for someone like myself who wanted to have a wife and kids and actually spend time with my family. Anyway, I decided to quit the supervisor position and find the highest paying direct support professional job there was in my area. I have a lot of experience so I was able to use that as leverage. Now, it is starting to feel like I am going to be stuck doing this forever and eventually my wife is going to think less of me for not aspiring to become the boss. There are people my age that are so high up in these companies they are in the position directly below the ceo and that does not feel good. If this career isn't for me in that respect, does that make me a loser. Also if have any ideas on what I can do next shoot them off.
