Most of us know that professional wrestling is scripted. It features scripted dialogue and choreography. Even though it's a scripted sport, there are occasions were some people get in shocked or disturbed by it's scripts. Specifically the WWE(World Wrestling Entertainment). There were two specific "eras" in the WWE that didn't care about boundries, the "attitude era" and the "ruthless aggression" era. Unfortunately WWE became PG and more appealing to sensitive fans. The current Era of the WWE is called the "PG era". A "second attitude era" has been teased on a few occasions though.

1.)Brock Lesnar mauls a one legged wrestler: During the Early 2000s, Brock Lesnar was not only in his prime, he was also one of the most successful wrestlers in the WWE. One storyline that upset some people was the storyline where he wrestled a one legged wrestler named Zack Gowen. Brock Lensar, would destroy Zack Gowen and constantly taunt Zack's mother who had a front row seat. That wasn't the most shocking part, later on in the story, he would throw Zack Gowen down some stairs. Don't forget it was all scripted.

2.)Heidenreich and Michael Cole: In 2005, a professional wrestler named Heidenreich was part of the WWE. There was one storyline that disturbed many people. During a wrestling match, Heidenreich went to the announcer's desk and "abducted" the announcer Michael Cole. A camera would show Heidenreich doing NSFW things to Michael Cole. There is a video of this skit on YouTube but it's very inappropriate to be shown here even though it's all acting.

4.)Undertaker hangs big boss man: During the attitude Era, the Undertaker played a heel(villain) as he had his own "cult" known as the ministry of darkness. After he defeated the big boss man at Wrestlemania, he "hanged" the big boss man. It looked so real which disturbed some fans.

5.)female wrestlers getting destroyed by male wrestlers: During the attitude and ruthless aggression eras, divas(female wrestlers) would take part as managers during male professional wrestling matches. Part of the scripts would involve the divas getting hurt by the action. This was when most people weren't sensitive so it was no big deal, however if this were to happen in the current PG era, there would be a lot of backlash.

6.)Muhammad Hassan story: During 2005 A professional wrestler in the WWE used a Arabian gimmick even though he is actually Italian, the controversy would be when his character would have give off a "bad vibe". Since during his wrestling career in the WWE, the 2005 London Bombings would occur. The WWE would make things worse for this wrestler when they had masked men in cargo pants be his goons. Eventually, the WWE felt pressured to get rid of his gimmick. So at a wrestling main event they scripted the Undertaker to "severely injure" Hassan. This was the perfect excuse to get rid of Hassan's gimmick.

7.)Homoerotic moments: There are some occasions where Two male or two female wrestlers do brief homo erotic skits. However, now that's it's PG and people are more sensitive they don't do this anymore. They weren't exactly meant to be serious, when two male wrestlers did these things they did it for laughs. When two female wrestlers did it they did it for the male audience. Don't worry the videos are PG.

8.)Jack Swagger's Xenophobic gimmick: A professional wrestler named Jack Swagger, originally had a collegiate wrestling gimmick since he was a collegiate wrestler in real life. However, later on in his WWE career he debuted a new gimmick. In which he portrayed a Xenophobic man. Surprisingly it happened during the PG era. He had a scripted feud with Alberto Del Rio a professional wrestler of Mexican ancestry, eventually they toned down Jack's gimmick by making him a face(good guy) and gave him a patriot gimmick(non xenophobic) instead of a nationalist gimmick. He is not a bigot in real life, he was just following a gimmick.

Unfortunately a lot of people tend to take things too personally which is why some believe that the WWE became PG. Maybe one day in the future, there will be another attitude or ruthless aggression era. People tend to forget that WWE is scripted.
