Listen. I am not really into the Marvel movies/comics and stuff. I like the Spider-Man movies and the first Iron, but I don't follow it. I watched Civil War because a friend asked me to. Alas, my first interaction with Black Panther. Immediately thought his character was dope and I thought that he should have his own movie. Friend said he thought that he might be. That was the end of that.

Fast forward to a few days ago. Randomly scrolling on Instagram. Come across a video. It wouldn't play straight through but I recognized Chadwick Boseman (who wouldn't) and I'm like "that's the Black Panther guy!" I read the caption to the video and all I saw was trailer. I immediately ran to Google and bout lost my mind for the next 4 minutes. The trailer was EVERYTHING! The icing on the cake? Badass Michonne from TWD is like head of the women warriors. That sold me! I'll be going back to school to get my degree in Black Pantherology by January 2018. 😂

Sorry but there is no such thing as one "Black" person getting to represent his/her experience as the experience of everyone who claims this identity.

Perhaps you are in a community where most are on welfare and they are getting shot up. If you are, you have to understand there are a lot of other "Black" people from well to do "Black" communities, that don't have gangs, drugs, and hopelessness.

And it is one of the few movies where the topic isn't about "Blackness". It is a superhero fantasy. Connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe featuring the Infinity War.

Maybe you are some social justice brother who would prefer something different. But I think about something Neil Degrasse Tyson said;

He was brought on to be an science expert on Fox News once, because they needed someone to explain solar flares. And he said, it was one of the first times in his life, he had witnessed a "Black" person being queried for their expertise in a given field rather than being asked about their experience in just being "Black".

Maybe that's why this is so exciting. It is just about a superhero, who happens to be from Africa.

Well, there was Blade. It will probably always stand out as the first. "Sleight" did not get much publicity, but I am going to watch it this weekend.

I want to state, I don't have a problem with folks who want to focus on the "struggle", justice, and all of that.

The issue is that with so many more "Black" people not exposed to those types of problems, you are going to get a lot of folks who just are not interested in topics like that.

In an episode of Family Guy, there was this brilliant sketch where a random "Black" guy just starts attacking every one on the street, then he looks into the camera and says, "why does every "Black" man on television have to be a role model"?
