10 Perks of Gaming

As a gamer, I hereby present the perks of gaming. I have been gaming since last 14 years and I have noticed development of several skills in me which are proofs to things I have mentioned below.

10 Perks of Gaming

1. Increased hand-eyebhand coordination.

Playing video games does increase your hand-eye coordination as they work upon making precision movements in a limited amount of space and time. For a fact, they're used in training surgeons.

2. Improved vision.

Keep a safe distance from the screen and discontinue playing video games if it starts to strain your eyes and you will be good. I have played for hours during nights under moderation and my is vision a lot better than others.. says an eye test.

3. Sharpens your memory.

Nuff said.

4. Makes you more adaptable.

Different video games require different set of skills and hence making you work for them. If you're habitual of playing different games, you are more accepting towards changes in your life.

5. Stress reduction and entertainment.

Well duh. The first purpose of making a video game was entertainment which also, in a way, helps in reduction of stress.

6. Makes you more active and agile.

Yep, increased reflexes. Now if you sit all day in front of video games, this isn't for you. You have to exercise, workout and go into the physical world too.

7. Sharpens your decision making skills.

Different strategy games which are often based on decision making based on your morals and your experience of the game makes you choose between things and carefully take into consideration the pros and cons of the decision you are about to make. In the back of your mind you know that the decision won't affect your real life but you still don't want to regret your decision so you act carefully- good for a practice.

A study was conducted on a group of young adults with no gaming experience who were made to play an action video game for 50 hours.

The conclusion was drawn as follows:

“Action video games are fast-paced, and there are peripheral images and events popping up, and disappearing. These video games are teaching people to become better at taking sensory data in, and translating it into correct decisions.”

8. Boosts your memory.

That made me look Google for once. Me and another gamer friend of mine can remember the things we did way back and when we meet other classmates and tell them about it, they are like 'Omfg! You still remember.' There are several other things I remember which my friends don't have an idea about even though they were the doers.. like some things we used to do in earlier years of elementary school. When I tell them about it *sequentially*, they just listen with their eyes wide open. On Googling, I found an unexplainable (yet) connection of gaming (especially 3-D) with superior memory. Although only a small amount of gamers (around 10-12%) are gifted with that so I maybe a lucky one too.

9. Makes you observing and attentive.

Rewarding yourself with tiny yet valuable findings in a video game, fighting/racing against quick paced opponents and after predicting their movement, acting accordingly makes you have a taste of sudden agile movement. Repeatition of such movements in different video games makes it a habit and there ya go!

10. Helps in treating depression and autism.

The feeling of scoring an achievement, celebrating victories helps depressed people especially in their teens to have some motivation.

Online gaming and interactions with people of similar interests helps people socialize and open up.

Concluding thoughts:

Although it's good to play video games and besides entertainment, it has many advantages. But that doesn't mean you can sit and play all day long, duh. Also, remember to quit playing your game as soon as you start feeling strain in your eyes.

That's all peeps.

Hope you enjoyed it.

Thanks for giving it a read.
