So, earlier this evening I was trying to answer this question
and found that I had so many to post.. I said heck.. I will just do a favorite 15 movies so here they are in order of year and again, these are just my personal favorites. I am sure you will all have your own as well.
1. Night the Living Dead ( Black and White ) - 1968
To my knowledge its the movie that put zombie movies on the map. and it also had a race element too. It is vintage but it is fun to watch and hey it's public domain so you can watch the whole movie just by clicking the link. It may be 60's but it's worth the watch.
2. Re-animator - 1985
This movie does not apologize with the amount of gore and shock, it just goes straight for it and leaves you feeling an adrenaline rush. It is dated but the effects are pretty amazing.
3. Return of the Living Dead - 1985
This has such a cult following to it and its one of my brother's personal favorites. With the effects and random fun characters it's easy to see why it spawned so many sequels and it watched and released even to this day.
4. Night of the Creeps - 1986
This is similar to a cult following with return of the living dead and again another of my brothers favorites. But this time it seems to have an alien twist.
5. Dead Alive - 1992
This has the same flavor as the Re-Animator it goes straight for the gore and shock. and hey its directed by the guy that directed the lord of the rings :) but to tell you where this is headed, body parts in food (if I remember right) and at the end holding up a lawn mower and just hitting hordes of the undead with it :)
6. My Boyfriend's Back - 1993
This one is simply pure fun. It pokes fun at itself the whole way through. It is for sure a dark comedy but it is a fun one. It's basically like, coming back from the dead and everyone treating you like it's back to normal although you are decaying and starting to crave human flesh so that's a problem :)
7. Cemetery Man - 1994
So, this is a foreign movie but don't let that fool you or pardon the term scare you away. You just need to start watching it and you will be hooked. Think about like watching Pan's Labyrinth with zombies, the story is so interesting you stick with it even if its foreign. Sure it can get slow at parts but overall it is a great movie and fun to watch.
8. Shaun of the Dead - 2004
Don't really need to say much here. The movie pretty much sells itself but those on the outside looking in. Imagine a drinking buddy comedy, throw in trying to fix a relationship and zombies and you got Shawn of the Dead :)
9. Resident Evil: Apocalypse - 2004
For me, this is movie that closest matches the game series even though at the start and past this movie the game series and the movie series part ways. But I remembered enjoying this movie the most in theaters and it is a great movie to watch girls kicking some a##. Like a female Indiana Jones or Lara Croft :) for zombies.
10. Planet Terror - 2007
I mean Robert Rodriguez directing a grindhouse movie with the living dead.... need I say more
11. Zombieland - 2009
It's another overplayed classic so sue me. :) I love it's playful nature. It's witty, humorous, and a great story about 4 drifters and their relationship with each during a zombie apocalypse. and hey it's got Bill "F"ing Murray so that's got to count for something :)
12. Contracted - 2013
Imagine if being a zombie was like getting an STD and slowing seeing the effects of it over a number of days, until you go full blown zombie and someone. It's more chilling because its a slower zombie transformation rather than simply dying and walking up a zombie, you transform into one.
13. Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead - 2014
Shawn of the Dead is a good way to describe this movie. Imagine a group of zany friends like the gang in Shawn of the Dead going after Nazi Zombies but with a twist, a guy that has a zombie arm that allows him zombie strength and the ability to make his own zombie horde. Yeah its a pretty crazy movie plot but it is so fun to watch.
14. Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies - 2016
You got a great romantic story with zombies thrown in. How this is not a B movie amazes me because it is so well done, if you took the zombies out it would still work. But you got a great cast and girls kicking a## again so overall it's a great zombie movie.
15. Anna and the Apocalypse - 2018
and last but not least, a zombie musical comedy. You heard that right! and the music is decent and the characters are fun. It is overall a delight to watch. At least to me anyway.
Please give a click on the link at the start and say your favorite zombie movie there. Other wise tell me what you think of my picks.
