Nice work on that MyTake, Jj. I'm definitely familiar with those songs. I like some of them a LOT and a few of them aren't particular favorites but they're still good. Seems like your dad was kind of a mellow guy and had a streak of romance and nostalgia.
    Is this still revelant?

So sorry for your lose JJ I lost my aunt two years ago and it hit me very hard. I do sometimes listen to her favorite music it makes me feel closer to her even though she is gone.

Don McLean - American Pie 1971 - As a child I had this song on repeat! It was so soothing and relaxing I am so happy your Dad found joy in this song my gosh it is a classic.
  • I-am-a-nobody
Oh my! Some real classics in there.
I play guitar (just chords, not a lot of picking).

I can do Old Man alright and a part of My Maria.
Amie is one I ought to try and American Pie, too.
If I could pick... I'd play Blackbird about a half hour a day (ha ha)
    Thanks for sharing.
    • You are welcome, thanks for reading

Very nice list, sir! I'm sorry for your loss. Making things like this are a good part of the healing process. It doesn't take the pain away but it honors your dad and brings you closer to his memory. My heart is with you.

    • I'm so sorry to hear that...

    • And thanks for the hugs. Hopefully your friend has some good support

I know every one of these songs and really like all but one of them. (I'm not a Melissa Etheridge fan.)

My dad was born in 1926 so most of his favorites were written in the 1940's and 1950's, and they would be unknown to most of the users this site.
  • CSN. Those otherwise drug addled protesters came up with a stunning eternal social admonition. It was probably much more subjective for Judy Blue Eyes.

    Don't let the past
    Remind us
Of what we are not now.
Translated: Never look back. I say it all the time.

Joel's Piano Man honored the style of another performer, Harry Chapin.

I karaoke Young's Old Man. Almost indistinguishable from his whiny, tinny tenor.
    • The great part about Neil Young is anybody can sing his songs as well as he could!

    • @I-am-a-nobody
I do Old Man, Needle and the Damage done, Cinnamon Girl among others.

Judy Blue Eyes, Piano Man, American Pie. Nice picks from him :D

Tell him to try out Take The Long Way Home by Supertramp.https://www.youtube.com/embed/KaHgzIwjZpw
    • Oh shit, just read he's gone. I'm sorry man.

    • No worries :)

    • I will say though that supertramp fit pretty well for this 😂 considering you did not know :)

I don't need to like these songs.
I like to see that you have good intentions, and that you two had (have) a good relationship.
My own father's favourites... will make you puke. I'll spare you that :)
  • lightbulb27
Didn't know landslide was released that long ago. I find it interesting it mirrored their relationship.

    Anything Frankie Valley.
