The Star Trek Based tv show "The Orville"- Was it good or bad

I liked this show. It was a mix of comedy and action. Unlike Star Trek which when even a bunch of people were killed, the show always ended with laughing and comedic quips. Even when Kirk's own brother and wife were killed, he was joking at the end.

I liked the cast of characters. They were all different. Of course the effects were way ahead of 1967. Seth McFarland, whose name I never heard of before watching the show on Disney Channel, produced the series. I enjoyed watching it and was disappointed that it ended after 3 seasons.

Which of you saw the show and what did you think of it?

It is/was a great show, and far more true to Star Trek than anything made by Kurtzman (all of the recent shows with Star Trek in the name but not in the writing). The ratings have been good too.

The problem is that Seth has been moving away from Fox since the Disney acquisition of the network, and The Orville was moved to Hulu for season 3. But with the recession and the drying up of venture capital money for streaming services, Hulu might not be able to afford a flagship show, and the Orville isn't cheap to produce.

A renewal may still happen, but the actors can only stay in limbo for so long, and once several are committed to other projects, the game is over.

As for me I love science fiction & when I saw the previews for The Orville it caught my attention because it was different & a funny kind of different as well. As for The Orville it’s three seasons long & when it was on fox I saw the first season however I haven’t seen the second or third season & I believe it’s on another network.

It's frankly better than basically everything that has had the Star Trek label on it in the last ~30+ years or so. Most of that can be attributed to the fact it is put together by a handful of people doing their own thing as a passion project rather than an entertainment factory milking reboot nostalgia.

It was full of liberal garbage. They had the opportunity to make it a great show but they had to inject their politics into it which sort of made it unwatchable for a lot of people. I did not know it lasted for 3 seasons. i stopped watching it after season 1.

That is another one that I made it a point not to watch. There were plenty of shows that just relied on a good story line without taking pot shots at Republicans. Now they are all jumping on the bandwagon.

I liked it for the most part. Xelaya made no sense - the humanoids should have been short and wide due to the gravity - but otherwise it was fun.

It is also not officially canceled. Seth is pushing for a season 4.

The show doesn't seem to know if it wants to be a satire of sci-fi or a serious science fiction series. Seth has a love for science fiction from the 70s and 80s. But it is like because of his comedic background he could never take the idea seriously. So you end up with a series that is unbalanced and weird. From scene to scene, you don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I would like to state for the record that I am a HUGE sucker for cheesy Sci-Fi.

The Orville just seemed too derrivitive and unimaginitive. I felt that it didn't bring anything to the sci-fi table that Star Trek didn't already do.
