Are Mermaids Real?

The belief in mermaids may have arisen at the very dawn of our species. The ancient Greek poet Homer wrote about mermaids in The Odyssey also called Sirens.
In the ancient Far East, mermaids were said to be the wives of sea-dragons.
First Sightings

One of the earliest mermaid legends appeared in Syria around 1000 BC when the goddess Atargatis dove into a lake to take the form of a fish.
As the Gods would not allow her to give up all her great beauty, only her bottom half became a fish, and she kept her top half in her beautiful human form.
The Bible

The Bible didn't specifically say the word “mermaid.” But there is indeed a concept of mermaid (half man, half fish) it's the god of the Philistines called Dagon
- You can find this in Samuel, story of Samson
It didn't say it existed exactly, but there is indeed a CONCEPT of mermaid...
In Greek Mythology

Greek mythology, mermaids were often referred to as sirens. The beautiful creatures were sometimes depicted as being half bird also, but the ones that are most popular in myths were beautiful women with fish tails.

As beautiful as these sirens were, they were not always the nicest of creatures.
Siren Role

In the myth of Odysseus, sirens lined the rocky shores and sang so beautifully that Odysseus and his men crashed into the shore. Odysseus devised a plan to safely navigate the passage.
Siren and mermaid association.

The Romans adopted the siren myth, portraying them as women with fish tails, and the two became synonymous in later times. So what do you think are Mermaids Real or just awesome?
