I'm talking about art in general speaking. It may be paintings, drawings, sculptures, architecture, interior, photography (1800s vs modern), food, music, fashion and much more. #Art #ModernVsOld
My opinion:
I'm usually leaning more toward classical when it comes to paintings, drawings, sculptures, architecture, interior and music, although there may be a few exception. When it comes to fashion, I prefer to wear modern clothing. But I do find both modern and clothing from the past nice looking. When it comes to photography I likes both modern and classical equally good. I likes spooky 1800s photos as much as the modern instagram food photography.
Classical for me if I had to choose one. I don't think any modern artist can truly compare to the likes of Michaelangelo, Rembrandt, Sargent, Rodin, etc.
I find modern art interesting because it often takes an aspect of what classical masters had to offer in their artwork and focus on that much more strongly, like Jackson Pollock who focused so much on rhythm and composition that he distilled that down to paint splattered on a canvas. Yet I think someone like Sargent could have also done that just as well if he was interested on top of being able to quickly render human figures in charcoal like this:

In that sense I think the classical masters encompassed a superset of the skills that modern artists typically have. I still like modern art in emphasizing and showing us brand new facets of the fundamentals, but if having to choose between the two, I'd easily favor classical. I also find as someone interested in art that there isn't that much to learn from modern art, even in producing modern art, as there is to learn from the classical masters.

I don't get modern art. I went to a museum and some project was placed smack in the middle of the floor and I tripped over it. I'm not painting your... raised square... for you, you can buy your own red paint.
Classical art
There are some classical that are awesome and some modern that are awesome. Art has too many movements to tell. Also... What is classical? What is modern? I mean, are we talking about a specific style or about a period of time?
Tolousse Lautrec. Modern or classical? Compared to Velazquez is modern, compared to Kandinsky could be classical.
I like Goya, Bosch, Caravaggio but I also like Picasso, Magritte or the movement of fauvism...
I dislike it when the piece has forced meaning to hide that it doesn't have a meaning and the artist didn't thought. I feel that happens a lot in abstract art (first abstract artist play too much with color and geometry, nowadays you are not apportion nothing new) and also happens in hyperrealistic art, where the technique is perfect but meaningless and unexpressive (if you want realism take a photo, nowadays hyperrealism is not necessary).
In conclusion, I can enjoy both modern and classical, specially if the piece of art is expressive and specially if it has many lectures and meanings to read.
I prefer modern art because it is more open for interpretation and more creative in that sense. Classical art was much more about style & the representation of things how they actually were or things from religious texts. Modern art is a concept that has found its perfect form.

Classical art... I believe it's called "realism" if I remember correctly (I"m a long way away from my Highschool art class)... that abstract stuff looks gay... like... it's just so gay looking.
I need to find a better word than gay to use, because, obviously the same use of the word has changed since the 1990's... So my bad if I'm offending anyone. Word suggestions... effeminate, degenerate, retarded, stupid... is there a new word that has all of that in one word?I am a huge fan of art, as an artist, owner of an art house and a collector. I think that both modern and classical art have a place, and can certainly see the beauty in say a Rembrandt, but also love impressionist work. I really couldn't choose, so I shan't.
It depends, I think classical is what I tend to think of when I hear 'art' but much modern art is good shit.
However some of it is like, abject cancer and makes me sad to think people pay good money for it. I saw a picture that was just a white canvas with a big blue circle painted on that sold for a hundred thousand, and then there was a dude who rented a hotel room and threw melted cheese all over the walls and somehow sold that for thousands. It seems like a racket.I really enjoy the minimalism of some modern art pieces, while I tend to get caught up in the surrealism of others. Classic renaissance art is awe inspiring with the level of technique and detail that is often seen in the pieces. I often enjoy classic gothic architecture, especially those of old churches, where modern construction techniques can lend to some truly unique buildings. As far as music goes I will listen to mostly anything, with the only exception being most modern (2010-2018) rap.
I still prefer the classical one... Just something in it is making me look at the painting more than in the others...
Classic.
It feels so much more skilled and honest rather than pretentious and crappy (like you're making fun of art).
Depends.
If modern means a canvas with a few splatters of paint or if it looks like a 2 year old made it it's a no for me.
But some do look good.
And some classical pieces are also questionable...I love the art of the Northern Renaissance especially that of the great Dutch masters, I also quite enjoy the works of the impressionists and pointillists such as Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, and Georges Seurat
I like fantasy art and dark art like this.
Classical, a lot of the modern art I've seen is just ridiculous, they'll have like a chair knocked over and call it art, that's not, give me large detailed painting of a landscape any day
Classical art, every time.
So-called modern art is degenerate garbage.
I share Hitler’s opinion of so-called modern art.
I studied art, by the way.I love all types of art. Modern I tend to enjoy making and classical I enjoy looking at and thinking about.
Is Rene Magritte Modern?
Because Modern started just 20 years after him.
I prefer Modern because it challenges tradition and preconceptionsClassical art it look more beautiful to me and have more story
I like both, as long as there's an element of realism. It doesn't have to be perfectly realistic though, it can have a creative edge to it.
Classical, im a science guy so rules and numbers are more appealing to me
Most modern art is not real art. I mean seriously someone once spray painted a urinal gold and put it in an art museum for example.
I like all the classical art that was produced until the 19th century. 20th century art is garbage. Neo-classical art is an exception though, I like that as well. Paintings, sculptures, architecture. All very nice.
I dont like them equally. Modern paintings and sculptures are just jumbles of junk to me, but I love classic and modern architectural art a lot.
Mostly classical, but I do love Impressionism.
