Should Jean Valjean Be Honest With Corsette About His Past?

This contains spoilers from the BBC series. Corsette is Jean Valjean's adoptive daughter and she doesn't know anything about her father's past as an ex convict, thief, mayor, Javert or anything like that because he never told her. He doesn't want to share his past with Corsette because he wants to forget it and Corsette doesn't understand why he's constantly anxious and have to flee frequently. She doesn't know why he's so overprotective either and why he doesn't want her to explore the world.

Marius (Corsette's new husband) knew it because Valjean told him it. Mr. Therandier also knew about Valjean's past and in the end he told it to Corsette. Marius also started talking about it. Valjean still didn't want to talk about it and then died.
