Will you be going to see to see the new Bond movie when it's released?
Personally, I had no plans to see the movie, even before the news that the franchise "got woke".
#Bond #007
Darn, I thought 007 was going to be a short Mexican guy with one eye that spoke with a lisp. Oh well... whatever, does everything have to be pushing the edge anymore? This is why I don't want hollywood deciding what I watch, although I did as a child of course. They should leave it alone and call her 008.5 or something. geez. Why 007? I'm going to make a movie about Cheryl Tiegs starter a tall black man as Cheryl, that be awsome?
next thing you know Scooby doo is going to be a ferret. Oh well, I guess we can also do another Tuskegee airman movie and make all the actors white women, that be cool too. Ok... I'll shut up now.
I won't be going to see it as I don't waste $ or time watching most movies... I'd rather watch grass grow, even if Bond was a tall chinese/mexican guy that walked with a limp (and that just might be next you never know...). If there isn't some historical context to it, I'm not interested. If it was a great move, maybe.
I'm totally down with black women in great roles, but this is not that - this is simple Political Correctness, and it isn't going to fly.
YES to new projects featuring women - including women of color - in strong lead roles and great stories. I'm all for that.
But NO to blatantly taking existing characters and just recasting them as women or minorities. No one is fooled.
To be honest I haven't really been watching ANY movies recently. I'm getting tired of all these remakes, sequels, old concepts etc. I've mostly been watching stuff I can find on Netflix, and I prefer series over movies. So I'm not sure I'll be watching this one either. Maybe if someone asks me to go I wouldn't mind, but as of late, I haven't really gone out of my way to watch any movies.
I'm glad that these actresses are getting more exposure, but I'd be a lot happier about it if Hollywood could actually create something new instead of just switching genders/races and calling it a day. It's a half-assed way of saying "look! We're not actually sexist/racist!!" which actually does make it seem a bit sexist/racist since it's forced. It's like they're doing it just for another clickbait headline and PR.
Exactly, it's virtue signaling. I think it was Apple yesterday that said they have a goal to double its amount of women employees and I think they said have 50% of workers being minorities. Why can they not just fucking hire the most qualified person instead of discriminating on people because of their race? It's pretty amazing.
@cavmanier on some level I get it because bias has been proven to exist when hiring (it's not always as easy as saying "we're simply hiring the most qualified"), and having "rules" about how many women and minorities should be hired would technically combat that bias. But I also don't think it's the best way to tackle the problem, because it, in a way, says "women and minorities need us to force companies to hire them" which also isn't a good look.
Yeah biases can occur whether discriminating against women, minorities or even white people though. Maybe it's more common with minorities for example but having a policy like this guarantees this bias on a inherent level from the beginning with no hope of neutrality. It would be like if police had to arrest an equal percentage of white people as other races. It just wouldn't make any sense lol. Sometimes you have to deal with the fact that males are more interested in computer science and white and Asian meals in particular are the ones into it and the most likely top-end talent. That's not discrimination. It's discrimination to hire a black female computer scientists with 2/3 of the talent. That's where we are though. I mean there are literally black people that get into medical school with much less qualifications so it raises the question if it's statistically smart to even choose a black doctor since you know many of them didn't get in their position on the same merit. It's nothing disrespectful to black people but a serious question.
If they really wanted to solve application problems like this they could make an algorithm that does most of the hiring work and eliminates subconscious bias.
I don't believe this is about fairness though. This is about looking good on the surface to feel progressive. I mean maybe these people really believe there's a need for this, but that feeling was created to stand out as enlightened person. I don't believe truly caring about fairness is there motivator because they're far from fair. A person separated from their bias can see this.
This is a work of fiction. Even if they wanted to make James Bond into a cat, all that matters is the cheeks in the seats who will determine if the movie is successful or not. The internet is notorious for flipping out over everything...before they even see a film. See it, then judge it for yourself or at least hear the reviews as to whether the film as a whole was good or bad after it's release.
Yet another studio that needs to be "gender/color correct" in order to get a maximized $/£ income.
After Sean Connery, no other James Bond could ever reach the level of the original JB007.
I will certainly not pay a dime or penny to see it in the movies but wait for it to eventually make it onto regular TV.
Well-said!
@Jenny4455 I did not find that he suited the role too well but it is good to diversity of opinions
@Jenny4455 Then you are a step ahead of me because I never read any of the Ian Fleming's books.
Personally, I found that Sean Connery had more old fashioned charm than either Timothy Dalton or even Roger Moore. The worse for me was George Lazenby, but again, this is only my opinion.
There are so many fantastic stories out there with brilliant female leads (such as killing eve) and new tv shows and movies written for female leads. I think it's a shame that things written for male leads have to have female leads crowbared into them instead. The original stories are always so much better
I watch one James bond in my whole life and that enough. Boring
But I so sick of remakes period don't give a shit about race. I think if the did new things it would give people less shit to complain about and new things to discuss other than race this and race that.
so old.
@JDavid25
There were no black James bonds. Just like there was no white Shaft. Just make new stuff.
All titles include black lash of and treading like black this and black that. It taking away from me wanting to watch movies anymore
I find it more insulting try to "fit" blacks in somewhere instead of taking some actual brain power to make new stuff to include everyone and new history. That would make more sense. And probably helps let go of the past for some.
I see what you sayin.. It seems now they went from feelin like "Black" people can't sell, to "Black" people can't sell unless they apart of some popular franchise.. But at the same time at least its somethin.. I feel like it's a bold step.. Hollywood ain't exactly original, so I mean hey this is nothin new..
@JDavid25
I humbling disagree. "squeezing" black in is a backhand compliment. You want to shine. Let the person (no matter the color) stand on thier own without being "squeeze"
I rather they continue as they do than this atrocity of a mess. I like to think that it not just white America fault either I seriously hate those Tylor Perry stories (honestly I can not relate to half that shit and it more insult that other races believe us to be as such) no "true" individualism.
And that the point. An individual is where change will have to start. You want to see a great black actor or actress than fine but challenge it by letting them stand on thier own.
the sad part we do have some really great black actors/actress that do shine but get overlook because of political correctness which is massively getting old
We still just melting people down to one thing and that color. Not a person but just color. And that to me is worse than anything. You just blending. Not being. A great start would be people showing who they are and "their" view on the world to project to others, Not typical stereotyping.
I mean for me it's more like "one step at a time".. I mean there is other original "Black" content out there.. But they don't get enough support by "Black" people to actually make some real damage.. Which is why they feel the need to shoehorn "Black" people into storylines typical made around "White" people.. Also, we will have to see what the role is actually like..

I wasn't gonna watch it either way.
I never watched a bond movie in cinemas to begin with, so probably "no".
I wonder, why they had to make her the "new 007", instead of a new character in a new setting, but whatever.
My guess is, that by calling it 007, they expect higher viewer numbers, which is the lazy approach of making a movie.
I dont really care who the main act is playing, as long as the plot makes sense. They would have to finally kill James Bond, so that they can name someone else the iconic number and if they screw up that part, I might get enraged...
No, I haven't watched any of the new James Bond movies.
They could have had a more explosive reaction if they decided to have tried 007 played by Mike Myers.
Oh the chaos that would have brought, with bits of 'Austin Powers' inevitably leaking into or contrasting with the iconic 'James Bond'!
I wouldn't have seen a 007 movie, anyways.
But I've always understood that 007 was a title, not an individual, so people getting their panties in a twist over this, the same way they would over a race or gender swap like Ariel or Thor is reactionary and stupid.
Hmm I wouldn't be a fan of that again because its an established male character. See, if Marvel and Hollywood came out with original female led badass movies thats absolutely fine. But like the need to change Thor and such is useless. Think about a future where charlies angels, kill bill, Wonder woman and all those people are changed to male. Just doesn't sound right.
Clearly, you are NOT a 007 fan!
@Guardian45
I never said otherwise.
@CountessSarah The issue is that fans of the movies are fans of James Bond. Since you bring up marvel comics this is like Iron Heart, sure its a different character with a different name but the result is the same. (Oh lady thor was a different character too)
I didn't even know this was a thing. I'm not even going to touch the skin color thing, because I find the arguments form both sides retarded. The sex change from male to female I find rather interesting. What will be the characters name, just hope it's not Jasmin Bond or some silly equivalent? Will James Bond even be mentioned, will he be 006 or 008? Will James Bond even be in the movie?
The thing is, how do you market a James Bond movie if he's not even in it?
Oh, I see. So he might be like a mentor to her. Interesting. So they might represent how this passing of the baton looks like when it comes to 007.
I like Bond films a lot so I will see it, I don't really have any changed opinion based on the actress, it's not made me want to see it more or less.
WAIT WHAT?
No no no no no no no no no no no no this can't be happening. Wtf this is a joke right?
No thanks.
Not only the fucking blackwashing pisses me off, but even the marketing around that movie is made around "she's a strong black woman who replace the old has been white man".
And to top it all, it shows where the real hate is:
twitter.com/PopCrave/status/1150437847922593792
Racism, sexism, misandry, heterophobia... It's basically a "fuck you straight, white people, and especially men".
I hate this moronic concept of completely changing story characters sex. If the author had wanted to change the sex of character then they would. I was a longtime Bond fan, but if this change goes through I will boycott Bond movies. This is the stupidest thing I have heard in a LONG TIME!
No. Not only is the character a man, he's a white man.
So two strikes and they're out of business. Fuck this generation.
Bond has changed his appearance several times. In the Pierce Brosnan version he had jet black hair and a deep tan, while in the Daniel Craig version he was blonde.
I'm still recovering from the excitement and genius of Batwoman!
I’ll probably watch it but it’ll never live up to the originals! Being male was part of the character of Bond that I really enjoyed! Just like I loved Angelina Jolie playing the female lead in Tomb Raider! We need both male and female leads, why ruin either or by switching the originals up? Just male varieties of both under different names.
*make
Well, bond is still being played by Craig, so it's cool. Bond is a male fantasy, so, a female actress doesn't really fit in the role. There are already a lot of good female action characters like Lara Croft, so, there is no such need for a gender bender. Also there are already a lot of good Black characters. And race can play a role but it must look ambivalent. It shouldn't feel like it is being done to push any racial agenda.
I meant actor of any race can play a role unless it's a historic character or race is important to the story. But it should be ambivalent. Not look like it is being done intentionally which is nowadays the case. And it actually shows the lack of creativity when writing stories about characters who are people of colour.
It shows that the writers need to change race of an already existing character rather than being able to write new characters. I think more people of colour should write stories from their perspective so we can get to see fresh new stories.
Not interested. Get woke, go broke. It's going to crash and burn just like Ghostbusters did
I used to like James Bond decades ago, but that series has kind of become irrelevant. The last one I saw was Skyfall, and even THAT was kind of boring. As for a black female 007, it looks like the entire entertainment industry has gone woke, which makes movies even LESS desirable than before. It's 'cultural appropriation', and I have no interest in spending any money on that.
I first heard that Idris Elba was going to be the new James Bond. I cringed because it’s blackwashing, but to be honest, Idris is badass and he is English, and England isn’t even a white peoples country anymore, so it makes sense. So I wouldn’t mind.
So what you’re saying is The main character is still a white male, but the second character is gonna be a black woman?
I love the way all these franchises keep dying thanks to SJW stuff, such as Star Wars, Ghostbusters, MIB and now James Bond?
... when does it end...
This is a narrative thing in the movie. James Bond leaves the organization and so someone else takes the 007 title and they have to go get him for help.
Really not a big deal. It's Craig's last Bond movie. They aren't saying she's taking over. We will most likely have a new male actor playing James Bond in the next movie.
What? Another one? Okay now they’re just trolling. Time to start some tin foil conspiracies...
Wasn’t planning on watching a James Biden film anyway though lol.
Bond autocorrected to Biden 🤔, tin foil for sure!
Y'all realize 007 is a fictional character, right? Right?
For God's sake, Aladdin wasn't Arab; He was Turkic. Who cares?
If 007 was a real character, then sure I would appreciate some accuracy. Otherwise, it would be like a black man playing William Wallace, or a white man playing Shaka Zulu. Either it's going to be offensive, stupid, or both.
I have no intention of seeing it.
According to polling, James Bond if the third most iconic fictional character, after Superman and Mickey Mouse, respectively. At least they didn't replace the character completely, but rather have him retired and a new agent taking his position as "007." I still think it's a mistake, but we shall see.
