Naw seeing these video chicks motivates me to go to the gym
I’m just annoyed at games where I can’t choose to be a female character lol
I would think it would be more annoying if you could only play as grandmas or puritan/Amish women instead of someone sexy.
I think those that don't like it are the feminist types who can't get a goodan to begin with so a video game character makes them feel threatened.
I dont really care. Practically, it makes no sense whatsoever. But it does attract a fan base, predominantly men, so it works.
Hello? It's an animated computer character!! It's like tv only not even real (I know some tv ain't real neither so don't even)
In video games, movies or in musik video, why is it mostly woman that are almost naked while guys wear full clothes on?
Because everyone enjoys the sight of a nice booby an no one wants to see saggy hairy ballz?
Maybe because men are more appealed by sexual stuff than women and, therefore, using this appeal can increase the success of a product among men.
@angecandy We can all agree that the female body is aesthetically more pleasing to look at comparatively to male bodies. That is a planetary truth. Even if you yourself feel that men may look better, overall, you would be more comfortable to see a naked female stranger vs a man approach you for help.
Also, men are more visual as a creature and it is why women are much better to look at. Whatever made us, did it so that we ( heterosexual men) would seek out a mate that was appealing to us.
Honestly I got distracted playing Fire Emblem and went on a tangent.
@ImagineSketchy As a straight woman I say that male bodies are more appealing to me than female bodies are and always have been. That's my planetary truth. And if women aren't as visual as men, then no women would be dating handsome guys. This is a long held myth that needs to be dispelled.
I know that a heterosexual woman would say that a male body is more appealing, but you're only looking at sex appeal rather than the whole picture. Just because you can determine if someone is handsome or attractive, doesn't mean that women are as visual. There's a reason that women generally prefer reading erotica rather than watching pornography. It isn't a myth. If I felt the need or desire, I'm sure i could find a study, or even create my own regarding what exactly a woman prefers. It would include which of the sexes they are more okay with looking at and their preferred medium for sexual entertainment/whatever. There's also the point that no woman would pay a man for pictures/video of him, however you will have many a man pay for those things to get them from an attractive woman. The visual creature thing does not rest solely with sexuality interest only but general appearance. Women have to be vain and dress well for men because we are so visual. Makeup, the fashion industry... Etc. All of this to sate women's vanity and men's visual interest in women. It's all a circle. It isn't a myth, and it wasn't a myth. This has been the case since the dawn of man... For more than 5 millennia.
@ImagineSketchy Most porn is filmed by men FOR men. That's why women don't find it as appealing. There are more women directors than there ever were, but still a giant minority. I've never had to pay for sexy vids or pictures of men I liked because they gave them to me.. But I did subscribe to the old playgirl and another women's mag that had naked men in it. Men are just as vain and dress well, wear deordorant, shave their bodies and groom to please women. . This sates men's vanity and women's visual and physical interest in men. Yeah, there are studies. Those studies were also done by men. I bet there's bias in them.
Yeah, they should just be naked, for piss sakes!! Unless they've got their legs spread wide, you won't see their slit and the only thing they're covering up top is their nipples and EVERYBODY has those so, what's the bloody point?
Well, there are mods for that if you want naked people in video games. Usually, they are among the first mods to be made for any games involving appealing female characters.
Mods? I don't play video games. The last one I ever played was Pac-Man!
Use Google if you are curious about it, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.
Most of the super skinny stuff are ridiculous but I do like some of the cute imaginative outfits.
I remember reading some research that showed people were distracted by the nudity while playing. Not a lot, but.1 seconds of delay is important in competitive matches.
Players get used to it after a while, so people who often played as the mostly-nude character developed an edge over their fully-clothed opponents.
Its just unrealistic. Strips of cloth aren't going to stop arrows honey, you need real armor.
It’s so hot they shouldn’t even have clothes to be honest no reason for them to
That's what mods are for :D
I never saw a problem with it especially since there are tons of male characters that are portrayed the same way.
I don't mind totally) it's just a game! Everything is too much in games graphics
I play a lot so I don't mind at all
All of my gamer ex gfs found them sexy and always picked the sluttiest outfit.
I've always found it to be very stupid. Zero armour value and meant to get horny little losers excited. Then I heard how much it "triggers" the feminazi filth, and began loving it :)
I don't know, I get the feeling that the same women complaining about these video game women, are the same ones complaining they can't walk down the street topless.
No it’s just a fictional character. And I mean come on, tits are great lol
I don't like it, I like it better when they are dressed in practical attire.
It appeals to what used to be the audience: straight men. I think it helps with sexual objectification. It doesn’t bother me but I find it to be stupid. You can have a great female character without big breasts and skimpy outfits.
And before anyone says it, no the character is not choosing for herself: the developers (likely male) chose her outfit for her.
I don't think it increases sexual objectification. True you can have great characters without these things, but sometimes these traits are part of the character or universe and it makes sense in a way.
A woman wearing skimpy outfits embodies no trait in my opinion. I think that's reaching. It's okay that we disagree.
That female character in the picture uses a whip sword as her weapon, she has a strong "mistress" vibe in here personally and fighting style, and her outfit complements these traits well in my opinion.
Based off of what? Right. Stereotypes. Someone can embody the "mistress" vibe without wearing such clothes.
But like I said, the outfit complement well the personality/stereotype and how is this an issue in the first place?
Because it's a stereotype. I don't understand what you're not getting. Do you expect every dominatrix to carry a whip? Or can their personality traits shine no matter what they're holding in their hand or wearing?
Xena was a warrior princess and didn't wear such clothing. You could get that "vibe" from her. I don't think the clothes add to anything: it detracts.
I honestly don't care but I understand the counterpoint to this argument: sex/women sell to straight men so to appeal to them, make a character with such outfits. I personally think it makes men look stupid and targets women unfairly.
That's it. Nothing else to say. I just have an opinion but I completely disagree with how you think it's a wo/man's fault for what they feel when they're being conditioned from various angles in society and told that they're not good enough. It targets insecure people, yes, but why should they be targeted in the first place? It also goes after the young demographic because they're still figuring themselves out.
Anyway, I feel like I've talked enough about this issue. We disagree.
If you feel targeted, belittled, that you're not good enough or something like that, I'm sorry but the issue is on your side. You are the one who is taking this seriously and internalizing it while it's not meant to be taken seriously. You are trying to change the whole society because of some insecurities that you are too scared to face and to deal with. I'm sorry, but I have dealt with enough people who don't have the responsibility to face their problems and prefer to throw them over everyone else to take this anymore.
This isn't about me. This is about the other people that you're belittling and blaming them when they have these insecurities which society exacerbates. It's clear that you're ignorant though. I'm glad that I've confirmed it.
I am not blaming them or belittling them, all I'm saying is that the only way for them to definitely deal with this problem is to look inside of themselves. Blaming society and everyone else will not solve anything, it will just make them bitter and everyone else angry.
That's what got them into the issue: LOOKING at themselves! Lol. Negative self-reflection because media sources are telling them that they will never be big enough, pretty enough etc. UNLESS if they look like this is the cause for their increased insecurity which leads them down a dangerous path. So why not cut that at the source: the cause of the increase? Blaming those people by saying they are insecure anyway and they need to deal with it so you can selfishly enjoy yourself isn't morally right in my opinion. I love looking at those big beautiful muscular men like Kratos but if it helps men who feel like they're shit if they don't have bodies like that to see a realistic version of Kratos, I am willing to give that up to help them.
We're different. I get it.
I responded on @ImJustCurious13, can we continue the discussion there? I just don't think we should limit the majority in the name of a minority's problems. However, I don't think that we should ignore these problems either.
I guess porn offends you too
Oh wow, young horny guys like half naked girls in games, who thought that...
Its like if you ask if guys dislike strip clubs...
I think that its good, the majority of gamers are men. Women don't need the way they want to be represented in every form of media or gaming.
It varies. If I like them as characters then I'm okay with it. If not, I play as somebody else. If I'm allowed to choose their outfits, I give them real clothes.
I like it, it's candy for my eyes. Also, most, if not all, male characters are hot and muscular dudes, often half naked, and apparently it doesn't seem to bother those feminists.
You could have as well asked "are you bothered that Ken is portrayed in a certain way as a Barbie doll?"
Most people playing video games are men. Most men like good looking women. That's it.
My shallow side likes it... Unfortunately. But my moral side recognizes that it is objectifying and not really ok. The question is, what do you place a higher value on?
Haha well at least you're honest. Me personally as an artist and someone that enjoys drawing the female body in its most pure and ideal form, I place more value on art and artistic expression than I do with catering to feelings.
No. We're all naturally naked. If there's a problem its behavioral.
It’s distracting. (Same with huge boobs and butts.) I’m also not even into skimpy stuff in real life.
That doesn't bother me it's eye candy of course it's much better in person though instead of looking at a cartoon girl in a video game
Love looking at the way they look but I'm a man an ain't nuttin wrong with sex. what can u say it sells its like so what if a few people don't like what they see as long as it sells.
o shut up like there r no men shirtless characters in every game since... ever
I couldn't care less, but it looks a bit silly most of the time
There is nothing wrong with it, or with the male equivalent. This is all just another manifestation of the overwhelming victim mentality of today's females.
I meant to say overwhelming victim mentality of "some of" today's females
The response from yoshi_wanna_ask is a great example.
I think it's awesome, and people should stop bitching about it.
i don't really care. i know that's obviously done to cater to thirsty men.
... Well sometimes I buy a game just for the sake of titties. Is that bad?
All seriousness, it's good to me. As long as it's not always completely in your face, I don't see a problem with it.
Nothing to complain about. They do the same thing to men in video games.
Seems little to much off in some games like it shouldn't be there.
It's probably not the best. Because it's putting all of the focus on her sexuality when it should be focused on her intelligence, skill, strength, speed, and other tactical abilities.
But why should it be focused on these things? Can't the artists and designers be free? Besides, these characters are not usually there solely for that so you can choose to focus on different things.
Well, should female soccer players and basketball players compete without jerseys? Should they wear sports bras only?
Also, what do you mean they're not there solely for that? Are you saying they're prostitutes?
Dude, real life and video games are two different things and even children know the difference. What I'm saying is that, even if a character wears a skimpy outfit, it's not the only thing they bring to the table usually : they have a personality, a story, a fighting style... Looks like you're the one putting all your focus on their sexuality there.
I'm not denying it. Yes, I would be staring at her boobs. Ok? I'm only human.
Did you just ask me if it bothers me female characters such as the one you show in the picture wear outfits like that?
Yes, male characters get realistic bodies and outfits for what they are doing.
The woman depicted just looks ridiculous, not even hot. Her boobs look like volley balls and her outfit is both ridiculous and unrealistic.
True lol
Have you seen the pictures I put in the update? You call that realistic? Even then, why should all games have to be realistic?
no, but it is more common for females. Look at older versions of MK for example, the males were a bit too bulky, but the female in top of not having realistic look were also dressed like the example you gave. Like who the fuck fights in that? Why do women's clothes have to be so sexual?
Who the fuck fights like that? It's a virtual world, not real life. Why do women's clothes have to be so sexual? Why not? What harm does it cause?
why aren't men's like that?
It causes sexualization.
Well, look at the update pictures.
@lydiad Everyone sexualizes the opposite gender to some extent, that's how nature is.
the point was it is not as common for men and that thing barely resembles a man at this point, it looks weird, not hot
But women specifically, have been sexualized A LOT throughout the history. Females have been gone through difficult times. Our gender had always been a target for men. And this is why sexualization needs to stop. "Sexuality" and "Sexualization" have totally different meanings. Please, do not confuse the meanings. It's important.
No wonder it's not as common for men because women tend not to care about this or not play video games as much. Of course developers will try to appeal to their main audience which is men.
@lydiad Why is it such a bad thing? Men are more sexual than women so no wonder women have been sexualized more but how is this such a bad thing?
because it gives men a fake idea about how normal women look like. Plenty of women get insulted daily on social media by frustrated men for looking like they are naturally supposed to, because of how women are potrayed in the media.
Men and people in general know the difference between virtual worlds and real life. It's more likely that their expectations change because of things like Instagram or social media where they can see REAL people and base their expectations on that. Even then, I think it's kind of counterproductive to base your expectations on that kind of thing.
it is not just instagram, everything in the media points to that. I am not saying there shouldn;t be any female characters like that in video games, just more variety of looks, both in physical appearance and outfits.
Really, you think video games lack variety? What games do you play to have that perspective? I have seen a lot of variety when it comes to design, especially when it comes to outfits.
I already said physical appearance. They all have similar features, face or body
Again, I don't think so judging from my own gaming experience.
I don’t get it. I mean, if their goal is to get males into the games more, they’d have better luck exposing male bodies.
Exposing male bodies? Lmaoo only if their target are gay men
All men are more or less gay.
What? How does this make any sense? Most men like women and seeing revealing outfit appeals to their instinct in a way.
Love this commenter... LOL!
lol Of course there would be skimpy dressed male characters. Men love that dick.
I'm not sure who you are trying to troll there.
Just keeping it real. Are u suggesting that they’re making the males half naked for a supposed female audience? HAH
No, probably for the ridiculousness.
Right, sure, that’s it. HAH
Or for the appeal of having the female character in the picture whipping these said half naked men.
I don't think men are bothered by it really, seems to me it's done for a reason :P
Nothing wrong with sexualizing characters, only the horniest would have trouble concentrating on the game with such a character. I like it when there are hot characters in a game, it keeps the boring part of the games quite interesting as well
Idc but men obviously made these perverted looking games, for those fat men at home to have something hot to look at right?
Perhaps also for the sporty teenage boy that wants to be very aroused to satisfy his girlfriend twice.
It's not something terribly awful or terribly positive. It's a game, that's just how it is, they are drawings, animations, not real people. Who cares?
If it fits with the game then sure, but in some games it just feels forced.
why would it bother me? I happen to like female characters in skimpy outfits
Yes if they look like that like my eyes. They hurt.
I think the costume should suit the situation. A little fan service to sell tickets is ok but let's not get ridiculous.
It's kinda unnatural stuffs which is made in the games , and it doesn't bother many of my friends , me and parents too.
I think its awesome. Who cares if people get offended? Artistic freedom and creativity are more important than catering to feelings.
I personally pro for this matter.
It is good for culture and next generation.
Way should be.
No different than the girls doing it in real life.
@lokookko What the hell? Dude, keep that kind of thing to yourself.
He's been spamming it everywhere.
yes. it's objectification of women and men grow up thinking women's bodies are just objects of pleasure. Which is why, in Islam, it is taught for women to cover up and men to lower their gaze. Something other people seem to lack.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcSmlSok32g
These characters are not necessarily objectified, many of them have backgrounds and stories. Besides, it does not teach men to objectify them, either men did it before or they did not but video games don't change that. To top this all of, you're telling me that Islam is a model and is a better alternative for women? If that was a troll, that was a good one!
And who wrote these characters and created them? Men. They created female characters that way for other men to view them as sexual objects. And if you think this has no effect on men's brains then you're naive.
Men are smart enough to distinct video games from real life. They won't apply virtual standards to the real world. Also, the same men who created this female character also created characters like these :
![What do you think about female characters with skimpy outfits in video games or in other forms of entertainment? Does it bother you?]()
![What do you think about female characters with skimpy outfits in video games or in other forms of entertainment? Does it bother you?]()
How do you explain that?
Did you even read the men commeting on your question? Some users are saying female characters look sexy. Of course it affects them and see women that way.
Yes, the characters affect them but it does not change their vision of women in real life so I don't see where the problem is.
yes it does. They start treating women the same way.
@Devasena Most of us don't treat women any differently than before we picked up a game that had those "sexy and objectified women". If they do treat them differently, it is usually through ignoring them and putting too much time into the video game
No. First, we don't treat video game characters because they are not real. Second, as I already said, people are smart enough to know the difference between the virtual world and reality. You thinking that people are dumb enough to act in real life like they would act in video games is very degrading and insulting to be honest.
It is true, what applies to one gender applies also to the other. It's just that women tend to be more in the line of fire.
What I mean is, men treat women in real life as sexual objects because they are used to seeing sexual female characters in video games. It does affect them.
If you seriously think people act some way because they saw it in video games, you are delusional. Video games don't create behaviors, they only appeal to people who already have these behaviors. I have played countless video games, some of them with violence, skimpy outfits and all, yet I'm not a violent men nor do I see women as mere sexual objects. If you seriously think that video games cause all this, how do you explain that there were people treating women like sexual objects before video games or porn were a thing?
Who cares? Its art. Artistic freedom is more important than catering to feelings.
" And if you think this has no effect on men's brains then you're naive."
What you're doing is begging the question. You're assuming the effect is automatically negative and that they will be influenced in a negative way when they might actually be influenced in a positive way. Maybe they will become influenced by it and want to become a game designer or get into figure drawing?
The men's outfits arent' really sexy. They look scary and don't show much musculature... or Matthew McCounahey stripper vibe...
@DWD1994 You should care because art is not real, humans with feelings are real.
@DWD1994 It is negative because just read the answers of the men who answered this question. Most liking seeing characters with "titties" because it's sexy. So obviously they see women as sexual objects. And how many of these men have said they want to become game designers? So the effect is negative and you're wrong as I have proved it.
The men who objectified women before porn and video games existed but now there are more of them. And yes it's because of such video games and porn. You, personally don't objectify women but many other men do. Just read the answers to this question.
Just reading these answers, how can men be the logical gender? I am more logical than most of these men. Jeez!
"It is negative because just read the answers of the men who answered this question. Most liking seeing characters with "titties" because it's sexy. So obviously they see women as sexual objects. And how many of these men have said they want to become game designers? So the effect is negative and you're wrong as I have proved it."
And what's wrong with wanting to see attractive women? Men like seeing attractive women. Sex sells. That's not objectification, that's just biology. Men like sex.
Your entire argument is based off of an incorrect assumption/premise that portrayal of sexualized women in video games ONLY has a negative effect. You haven't actually proved anything really as I am someone that has been influenced positively by these video games and have been inspired to do more figure drawing and get a possible career in character design. Not to mention, in other countries like Japan which have the same games as here in America (yet much more sexualized content) have an extremely lower crime rate than America.
"You should care because art is not real, humans with feelings are real."
Art, liberty and the freedom of expression/artistic freedom are all more important to me than catering to feelings. I draw pin up girls and women that are sexualized quite a bit. Don't like it? Too bad, because I'm going to keep doing it whether you like it or not. I do not care to have my work and others works of arts be pissed on with whining and political propaganda.
"Just reading these answers, how can men be the logical gender? I am more logical than most of these men. Jeez!"
None of what you said is logical. Its only logical to other people that have the same regressive attitude as you do towards sex and the human body.
Also saying these men 'treat women like sex objects' is meaningless. What do you mean they treat them as sex objects? Are you talking about men that regularly lead women on, have sex with them, then leave them to find someone else? Or are you talking about sex trafficking, rape, etc?
Saying 'men treat women like sex objects' is meaningless because I have no idea what you're referring to.
Also why should I care about what Islam says? America is not a theocracy nor should it ever be one!
This idea that having attractive sexy women being portrayed in video games is teaching men to objectify women seems as to be more opinion based than anything. Journal articles and studies regarding this topic are tenuous at best and are usually riddled with confirmation bias and its really no different than the extreme right wing talking points regarding video game violence leads to real world violence.
Video games in general are just an easy target for people as opposed to actually taking ownership and responsibility for their actions. People just have a personal vendetta against video games, whether its disgruntled feminist women, religious parents, etc.
@DWD1994 Video games are extreme fantasy. I love shooter games. Do I want to kill real people? Does it make me care less about real people? It has nothing to DO with my relationships with real people. If I like attractive over masculinized male characters, this has nothing to do with the real men I interact with and I certainly don't choose those kinds of men in real life. Fantasy is fantasy...
@Screenwriter Exactly.
Video games are just an easy target for people to blame for real world violence as opposed to looking at other factors such as gun-laws, mental health, parenting, etc.
People need to stop entertaining pseudo science. This idea that video games cause real world harm is based off of junk science that is no more valid than creationism, or flat earth conspiracy theories. I could easily understand people being apprehensive about this sort of thing back in the 1990's because it was something we had never seen before. But its been almost 20 years. We need not be entertaining ideas put forth fueled by pseudo science. Its beating a dead horse.
You know, everyone sees the a member of the opposite sex as a sex object to some extent because that's how nature is made. We are designed to mate so that our species survive so any candidate is seen as a potential sexual object. What is the issue with that?
Also, as many mentioned, real life and video games are too different things and even a child knows how to make the difference.
Why definitely think it's unhealthy women are much more than their sex personally I don't watch her play those kind of games so it doesn't affect me that's why I quit doing those kind of things
But virtual worlds and real life are two different things.
I don't like it. It's over sexualization of a character and isn't even realistic. Would a women really go into battle wearing less than a bikini while the man next to her has full armor? No. I get that it's a video game but it's disgusting.
Why would video games have to be realistic? Have you seen the pictures in the update?
Oh, you're right. Maybe we should start having all video game characters walk around in the nude and shoot lasers out of their dicks. Doesn't need to be realistic in even the slightest
As long as people like it, what's the big deal?
Did I say it was? No. I was starting my personal preference. Quit trying to argue with anyone who has a different opinion
Why should I stop trying to argue? I argue to challenge both my opinion and the other in the pursuit of truth or of fairness. Sorry, but I won't stop pursuing these things, especially if they can give me a better perspective on the world.
Okay, you asked what people thought of something. That doesn't mean you need to reply and argue everyone who doesn't agree with your point of view. I don't need to defend why I think it's over sexualization of something - that's just how I feel. You need to accept that people think differently and move on.
I accept it but what I'm really interested in is what lead them to have this opinion and that can only be found out through arguing. Because opinions without reasons are like results without proofs : it's cool but it does not help much.
Oh sorry sweetie, next time I'll list sources on why I feel like that when it was an informal post 🤡
Okay, no matter how I try, you don't seem to understand what I mean so I won't bother. Just a small tip, you are not going to go far if something as simple as someone asking more details about your opinion offends you.
why would it ever be an issue?
I love it
I'd like to see more of it
DUDE! Your question shows up in the search engine
I've never seen that happened before
https://imgur.com/a/fHkuomK
I think it just shows the question that is currently the "most popular"
I think yhey are awsome. The skimpier outfits for the chicks the better 👍🏻
No, it's a video game. I could care less.
Who knew bikini armor could be so effective.
