Do you think Korea is the future of the entertainment industry?

When I watch something like this it just blows me away in terms of professionalism, effort skill and attention to detail. I just don't see this from other places. Kpop has been showing results for a long time now but nobody has even come close to the quality they produce. If you look at japanese and chinese dancing in pop music it's just not comparable. If someone is good they were usually trained in Korea. Of course there are good professional dancers everywhere but that's not the same as having high level of dance from most of your stars. Korea is honestly just putting most of the world to shame with their system. I'm not saying everything about it is good but the results just keep impressing me even when I've seen so much of it before.

And then there's music videos as well. This one is 5 years old but is still a work of art. The cinematography on this is just sick.

And we have tv shows as well more and more of them are on Netflix or other places. TV shows even get copied from Korea and remade in the west when it was the other way around before. Shows like The Masked Singer and The Good Doctor are korean shows.

The movie Parasite also made waves, I see that as more of an outlier for now at least. I don't see Korea taking over the movie business but it's still a respectable accomplishment for a small country.

Yes other countries will learn from Korea in the future.

K-Pop is popular and spreading around the world, yes, but they didn't come up with this style. They have created a formula inspired by others. As far as entertainment goes, they are late to the game. This style is influenced by boy bands in America in the 1990s, and now some hip hop in these 2000s. Madonna also pioneered the choreographed group dance genre, though she was the star, the central focus, and gay guys often danced around her, sexualizing her in a sort of ironic way, if you got the joke.

The girls and guys they hire are groomed within a very strict and rigid government-run system. It is costly to compete and even get a foot in the door within this framework, and so to get the dance training many young girls beg their middle-class or lower parents to put them into these grooming schools, in hopes of becoming a star. It does not allow for individuality, but instead they are chosen and slotted in to fill a role within a group, so that they have wide appeal and many audience members can find one character to relate to. Much like America's The Spice Girls back in the day, with their Sporty, Posh, Baby, Scary, and Ginger. Because fame is so alluring, as is being in the entertainment industry, there is a constant stream of young girls and guys dying to get their foot in the door. Thus, the producers keep a very tight rein on them, and will not hesitate to replace them if they gain a few pounds of step out of line, or keel over from exhaustion. There are documentaries about this notoriously bad treatment. The majority of them cannot sing and are auto-tuned and drowned out by instrumentation or lip-syncing. I find this music extremely shallow and formulaic. I am not interested in 'artists' who merely execute what others tell them to do, whether by singer/songwriters, musicians, choreographers, etc. But you are right about that music video. It is very well-produced. Visually, I'd give it high marks.

Globalization is the world we live in. Most parts of the world have easy access to what other countries are up to, and nothing happens in a vacuum. Some Asian girls are not happy about the fetishizing of their culture, but is it any wonder, when the countries are putting out stuff like this, specifically to sexualize the artists, and Asian porn and manga and hentai is everywhere. There are influences everywhere, and while cultural appropriation may be at the farthest end of it, very few countries or artists or record labels can now claim truly unique concepts that have not been heavily copied. That, combined with the inhumane treatment, government propaganda, etc. (they want more cultural influence worldwide) just remind us that all that glitters is not gold. They are a machine, an engine that is solely focused on commercial success, not talent or individual self-expression. And 'art' that is state-run and highly controlled is not true art, as far as I'm concerned.

I love it. 2NE1 is my favorite Kpop group along with Girls' Generation. They're so badass and their live performances are even better. Their stage presence is off the charts and they have amazing vocals too. They can go ham or sing slow sad songs. The group disbanded but I'm still hoping for a comeback or more solo stuff. CL wanted to debut in the U. S. but she could only release one song and then her korean company pretty much sabotaged her and she couldn't release songs for 3 years.
This was maybe supposed to be her second single she leaked 2 50 second clips on instagram. She even had a MV and couldn't release it. It was a really hard time for her. She released an album at the end of last year though. I even have a poster of them in my room ;)

Korean songs and tv shows etc. are definitely becoming more popular as the days go by, but it is all heavily influenced by western culture and by western ideas of shows and songs. I feel like k-pop songs will become even like modern western pop songs etc. so I guess yes, they probably will be a strong part of the future entertainment industry, but it will just be American comedy/music/etc. 2.0.
