Why do some people keep shipping cartoon and video game characters?

For the past few years people keep creating fan-fiction, fan art and tweets about what character is sleeping with who, or what characters are dating each other. The whole thing is crazy and creepy. What's wrong with these people?

Often, this contagious intensity is directed towards the (fictional or otherwise) characters that exist in each universe. The direct and indirect connections between these characters is where “shipping” blossoms. To ship is to desire a relationship (romantic or platonic) between characters.

I say it is about the intent. I rather read adventures that are actually pure and innocent, not these hyper-sexualized stories. These people who take's "shipping" too far are either horny or they are making their own version of porn. Written one to be more specific. How do you think the book and movie series 50 shades of Grey came about? A sick fanfic about the main characters in Twilight. That's all. It goes to show you have reprobated people's minds are. They are so desensitized by porn, and most fanfic that has all of that is basically pubescent teens and young adults.

They basically write them because THEY wanted to be in their place or as most people do, promoting sexual perversions and turn something romantic and innocent into something sick. No different in real life. When people try to hook you up, what do you think is on their minds? Sex. When they promote you dating, what do you think is on their minds? Sex. When people mostly want you married with kids, though it's not always perverted, what do you think is on most people's minds who do have those perversions? Sex. Why do you think so many people focus so much on looks and lusting? Sex. So the same people, with the same mentality are focusing on that.

People are perverted. Even when characters aren't gay, they promote that stuff, and its disgusting and sad. It's why a lot of people have real life sex, romantic and dating issues. So there is something very wrong.

But what I dont understand is the obsession with videogames and anime past a certain stage. Once you’re like 25, it would turn me off. But i think its okay to like a fictional character, cartoon or not but only to an extent. If you’re masturbating to anime characters then yea thats weird
