+1 yThere are of course, but I believe in letting society choose those limits. If you find those jokes poor in taste, then simply don't watch it. If society agrees with you, then the comedian has an incentive to no longer tell those jokes. I used to love SNL until they started openly mocking Christianity several times in an episode. I just want to watch something that makes me laugh that doesn't consistently insult my way of life. Who am I to say they can't make those jokes though? If that's what sells, then I'm more upset by society than the show. I just won't watch it.

Mostly I would say nothing should be off limits, it is after all the roots of comedy, that being said there are one or two subject like child abuse or rape that should be left out of comedy

+1 ynot everything is funny, like if someone makes for example, a joke about your mom, or that she's going die or something super offensive to your religion, or race, its really not funny. when the jokes on you, you know deep down you're offended but keep cool from the outside to look better
even jokes can hurt more than it should. and make people want to change themselves11 Reply
+1 yEverything is funny to someone. And someone will always be offended by something. That's life. What's not ok is telling someone what they can and cannot be offended by.

+1 yNo. Not everything is funny. Its hard for me to laugh at a lot of comedians honestly. A lot go too far. Kevin Harts standup is better than his so called comedy in his movies. He doesn't go too far. I used to like Katy Williams and Nikki Glasier as well. I can't stand Amy Schumer. she's not funny and takes it too far

Richard pryor also took it too far

Redhead kathy? I meant *katt williams*. Also whos sarah?
- +1 y
Yea sarah is not usually funny. she's a try hard like amy. Kathy crosses the line like dave chapelle but they have their moments
- +1 y
he's funny in movies but his standup crosses the line for me

@DizzyDesii I can;t even watch SNL anymore. It has not been funny in 20 years.
- +1 y
@exitseven i never watched at all. I preferred In Living Color... Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Wayans Brothers, etc
- +1 y
@DizzyDesii I remember that. It was pretty good.
+1 yI am mostly in agreement. I feel like if you intentionally leave out a group a certain demographic, it’s almost like you pity them. I’d rather not be pitied or have someone thinking that I pity them.
I think laughter is very healing. I’d rather not tiptoe around certain subjects unless they’re extremely fresh (which is obviously subjective).10 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. nothing should be out of bounds... if you dont like it then you can leave or turn it off and contrary to popular belief its usually left leaning comedians who promote this view... at least here in the uk anyway with acts like frankie boyle and jonathan pie and in the states, doug stanhope ofcourse.
20 ReplyAbsolutely. From dead baby jokes ("abortion") to raping Jesus (or was it Jesús?), nothing should be off limits in comedy. If you don't like it, tell it to my ass: He's the only one who gives a sh*t!

True. That is perfectly fine. But trying to get someone canceled because you ("you" in the general sense) got offended over a joke is weak sauce, in my opinion. No one has the right to kiss anyone's ass and give them emotional belly rubs. That's why respect and politeness should never be taken fro granted; no one HAS to be nice to anyone, so if people are, it's (usually) done out of choice. But in regards to humor, jokes are jokes and just that, and many people use them to endure hard or troubling times.
823 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. I think there are limits in everything. No holds barred is not something I subscribe to. Put the gloves back on.
But I didn't vote because I think the compromise is somewhere in between those two phrasings. We shouldn't cater to every single sensitivity or feeling that anyone may have. But comedians do not need to push boundaries constantly. That's not funny. It's extremism and it's not necessary to get a laugh or amuse themselves cause they're bored.10 Reply- 320 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic.
+1 yWhile I believe that comedy should not have any boundaries, I don’t believe that EVERYTHING is okay to joke about! I mean, things like genocide should not be joked about, it should not be illegal, but the market will decide if genocide / ethnic cleansing is funny! My point is, that it’s not the government’s role to say what may and may not be spoken about on a comedy stage.

+1 yNo limits.
However, today's comics are not funny.
Therefore, I would say the limit would be the material would actually have to be humorous.
When politicians like Trump become the sole topic of a comic's routine it ceases to be funny.10 ReplyI think there should be no limits. People who push "feelings first" tend to come off as controlling to me. As if they might as well come out and say: I'm offended by that and I demand that you are offended as well.

33 Reply6.5K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Comedy is only comedy when it is funny. Good comedians know what lines not to cross. You can poke fun at someone but being meanspirited about it is no longer humor.

u +1 yFor me, I believe that there should be limits on comedy. Making jokes about someone's death, e. g., is in horribly poor taste.
10 Reply 570 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Nope. As it's wrong. There are legal limits in comedy. It can even get you banned and prosecuted, if you're not careful.
Nearly all professional comedy is scripted and legally checked before it goes onstage.00 Replyas long as people know their audience and don't go crazy at someone's personal expense i think it is all good to joke about whatever

+1 yIt's not a case of hurting feelings. Constantly being the butt of jokes belittles groups leading to justification for discrimination and abuse.
025 Reply- +1 y
I didn't say it did but the fact remains that ridiculing a group is the first step to dehumanizing them
- +1 y
Yep. This site is a perfect example of that.
Some of these guys despise women by feeling they get mocked for lacking in wealth, height, dick size (even if the mocking is coming from each other and then being attributed to women). They then turn it around and start hating on women as a whole.
Same thing happens here to the LGBT community but especially those who are transgender. We have some really great people on this site who I know have come out here and have to see people saying AWFUL things about them and making jokes at their expense. I know for example ElizaPam is one of them who is very open about her transition and my heart breaks for her when I see some of the comments/"jokes" she gets. - +1 y
Ok- that was my bad. Unblocked. All I know is at Christmas we were all having a great time. Swapping recipes. Talking about Santa Claus and even what if Ms Claus took over? And it was fun. Now, I've got people busting my nuts over the fact that I don't fault any Trump supporters for putting fear into the government. Hell, they need it, those comatose bastards. Does that mean I'm your enemy? I don't think so. I 100% respect your opinion. I 100% love fine wine and womanizing, as well. Sue me.

@bean2k21 I dont think Jan 6th was going to be anything like what people said personally. I dont think it was going to turn into some blood bath. Republicans make up the bulk of gun owners. If they wanted people dead there would have been a blood bath. Most were just oldens like grandmas knitting socks and grandpas raising fists. The few that got into the gov buildings were for the most part, just let in. But the few LARPers that took it a step too far were honestly... losers that still werent going to do anything seriously. I did feel bad for that one black cop that felt in fear for his life and cornered though, not cool. Poor guy was doing nothing wrong. Also sad for the cop that got trampled on. But that doesn't mean it was going to get violent anymore than people storming the best buys and walmarts on a black Friday. I eve throw leftists a bone too. I dont think the vast, vast majority thought the "Summer of Love" was going to turn violent the way it did. I'm glad I'm centrist enough to see the forest for the trees.

I mean except the weapons they were brandishing, the windows the busted, the chanting for people to hang and kill, the going out on the floor and going into senators office to photograph government documentation, and the people who died either that day or because of what happened that day. Yeah except all that it was barely what we thought it was.

@Ez-Bri-Z I honestly didn't see any of those things but then again I wasn't watching a news broadcast just an independent live news feed at the time on YT. So i only saw that stuff honestly. The bulk were actually parked out on the grass and sidewalks.
![Do you agree with the statement "there are no limits in comedy"?]()
thats a lot of heads to count for tbh. So not everyone's going to see the whole thing. Like my friend did a live feed in Seattle and we saw NONE of the shootings and stuff that went on. But there was literally shootouts in the streets and stuff and no one knew about it either. - +1 y
@Ez-Bri-Z I'll look into it. Did they have one on C-Span or Forbes? They tend to be pretty fair and balanced. Also have you tried ground news yet? I was looking into downloading the app. Apparently they have no bias (so i've heard). I might DL now and let you know if thats true or not.
- +1 y
@Ez-Bri-Z Nothing. I got blocked by supercutebutt yesterday because I simply stated that "When government fears the people, there is liberty." Trump supporters or not, this is what America is all about. Storming the capital and telling them what's up, motha fuckas? So then I went on a blocking rampage of anyone who looked like a man hater. Because, I believe so much anti-Trump stems from the fact that he is a man, and I find a lot of it just excessive. Dress him in a Santa suit and people would love him. But God forbid someone with a penis should realize the American dream. And oh no - appreciate the female body and have a little talk about vaginas with his guy friends.
- +1 y
I thought this whole website was a joke at first. I was rude because it's a lot easier than reading long-winded stories about 'why come my boyfriend don't Snapchat me blah blah' Then you start seeing things. Like @purplepoppy telling a fat American boy that he has a right to be loved. And @mcheetah wishing someone could love him for how beautiful his mind is. And @t-8900 defending the institution of marriage. And @ez-bri-z showing off her motherhood. You start to see the real people behind the anonymity. And you fall in love. Maybe that's why it hurts so much sometimes, the joking around. I don't know what I"m trying to say.
- +1 y
@bean2k21 thats beautiful. But yeah I do talk mad shit sometimes because I get frustrated. I'm a very passionate person. I dont believe marriage is obsolete or needs to be obsolete. Communication is key and if you loved someone once you can fall in love again depending on the circumstances and if they remained faithful. We do this for what we once had, for the vows we make before each other, our families, and if you're a believer than God too, we do it for the kids, we do it because it makes a community stronger. I can come down hard on people but it's not from a place of hatred. I see a lot of people that go down the same path I did, making the same mistakes along the way. And it drives me crazy because I had so many regrets from those decisions, and I want better for em.
