In anime why are boobs and butts shown before the face?

Is it a male gaze thing? I’ve watched a lot of anime and a common trope I’ve seen is when an attractive female character is introduced the first things shown are the boobs, butt, legs etc but never the face which isn’t the case with male characters. Why the double standard? Attractive male characters should also be introduced as sexual objects first and people second. It’s only fair. Show the butt, abs and muscles first then the face.

I love erotic art. I have hundreds if not thousands of images I have collected over many years, some is Anime and Hentai and can be among the most erotic.

For whatever reason guys are not wanted to be seen as erotic. Look at swim suits and underwear for men for example.

Swimsuits are loose Board Shorts down to the knees and most underwear are boxer shorts. Not very sexy to me but some think so, I guess.

If I remember correctly, some/most Japanese women in real life are somewhat small in size and so in anime they make up for what they don't get in real life. And maybe those ladies cover up their bodies more so in the anime they are introduced that way.

A lot depends on the genre of the anime, and who it was aimed for.

I'm sure any yaoi or boys love anime would do the same for the male figure.

But a shonen anime aimed for teens has no reason to fanservice the female audience as much, unless it's in the context of a feminine male support character and meant as a parody or joke.

Most anime was made for teenage boys. Some of the things that are oh so sexy for a teenage boy (wind blowing skirt up) are totally yawntastic for an older guy and probably for most girls to. You aren't the intended audience if it doesn't appeal to you.

It depends, it also doesn't "always" happen.
Sometimes it's used to accentuate the features, show you that they stand out, show you that the character is taken aback. If the camera is from a serious character's perspective, you often see their face afterwards, so you can see if they break character or try to cover it up.
In short: fanservice, comedy, character building

I think you're mostly watching the anime shows that sell to making young boys giggle and young boys are the most anime watchers today.
