A horror movie that is scary without any jump scares is a true horror movie.
Jumpscares in horror movies, yay or nay?
A horror movie that is scary without any jump scares is a true horror movie.
Most of them seem incredibly cheap and lazy to me. There is one I can think of where I think it's excellent though, and that's this scene from Se7en:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/h8m69o_1PoQ... HE'S ALIVE! Here, while it might be a bit startling, it's also rather horrifying and disturbing that he's still alive. There's a whole lot being communicated here all at once in a jolting fashion, and not simply like some woman digging around in a basement only to be surprised by a cat that doesn't really have any relevance to the story.
I watched Se7en in the theaters and I think that's one of the greatest horror moments I've seen in the cinema.
I hate them. The reason is that I get so freaking uncomfortable and when a jumpscare happens or like someone scares you in real-life my trachea closes off, my heart stops for a a couple of seconds, my body feels weak, and then my heart goes then wild. I feel weak after that. I think the highest like SYS, DIA, and Pulse was like 180, 100, and 100 because I passed out.
Yeah cuz I don't find horror movies scary without them. It's just like a story shown in visuals. Honestly there are very few horror movies of such a good quality which can give you goosebumps without any jumpscares. I chose Yay because at least it gives me some sort of thrill. Cheap way but works well for me.
I agree with you I want to see a badass horror that keeps me on my toes and makes me jump then I know it's a good horror. I love horror movies watch then all the time. Personally I like the slasher and paranormal ones the most

if you NEED to include jumpscares in movies in order for it to be considered scary, then that just means that the story is shit lmao. and i just find them annoying, just a "cheap" wayt to scare someone... no thanks.
I love scary movies or games but jumpscares are just cheap to me.
Definitely nay. A good movie won't rely on them to be dark and suspenseful, and will instead build up the tension over the course of the film.
To me, being scared is a negative feeling.
I don't see a point to seek 'negative feelings' in my recreational time :)
So I conclude: let them jump as much as they want.
Good horror movies play on primal fears. It's supposed to make you feel the effects of the movie long after it ends. Jumpscares just startle you and it is extremely lazy. You can just throw up a picture of a kitten with scary sounds and it will work.
They're lame. They don't impress me anymore.
The Saw series. Now those are good movies. They have so many layers. I hope we get another.
I feel like without jump scares its more of a suspense movie than a horror
I don't enjoy being startled by ANYTHING. Whether it's an alarm suddenly going off, or being suddenly shocked by static electricity discharge
Oh no I don't even like horror movies because every time I watch something scary I can't sleep
One or two, OK. If the movie depends on them it is sloppy film-
making.
I used to have nightmares from them. They still scare me to this day.
Horror movies just suck now
I’ve had too much trauma. Don’t like them.
Yep, same boat as you.
After the baby jump scar I stopped watching lol
Yay.
I get scared easily.
