Here my rant: It annoyed me how vampirism is considered as the worst thing in the series. Many characters were desperate for the cure against vampirism for example In my opinion it is the best thing since you are very strong, and so you can defend yourself very good and it does not matter whether you are a woman or man since female humans are physically weaker than men. Furthermore, it makes you very independent since there is no need for any doctor, food, sleep water, etc except blood and your blood even cures humans. Immortality can be positive too but this is not the main reason why I like vampirism. I rather be a vampire for 100 years who will never have health issues, is physical very strong and very independent etc. It actually benefits women since they can defend themself from rapists etc. For example the original or one of the first vampire rebekah turned the so called casket girls into vampires after rescuing them so they dont get abused/raped anymore by men. In 18th century girls or so called casket girls were sent by the french king to the french colonies in america in order to make them marry with the men in these colonies but these men mostly abused them. This is actually a true story except the vampire part although nuns thought they are vampires due their their very pale skin.
Note: This is my opinion. I may be wrog. I just descripe my feelings, thoughts etc about it

What I like the most is that you can defend yourself from rapists etc due to vampirism
Did you watch "The vampire diaries"- If yes, why is vampirism treated as curse or the worse thing that can happen to you?
1# long life you have to watch all your normal friends and family age and die over and over and over again.
2# sunlight kills you this it really limits your movements compared to other species.
3# everyone is a potential enemy
4# blood If you don’t get it you die and to get it you have to usually kill and killing puts you on peoples radars thus see 3# and if your starving the hunger could drive you to do something stupid such as reveal yourself or get you killed.
5# potential loss of humanity
6# greater emotional trauma compared to humans as you emotions are stronger so you feel em a lot harder.

Vampirism in the Vampire diaries. Also amplify your emotions as well.
If your a rude person you probably will be a back ass.
If you love hard your gonna be a stalker most likely.
Pain hurts more as well.
When Jeremy died Elena couldn't take it.
You can't control your hunger some times You need daylight rings, people will huny you.
Your humanity can be turned off.
And you have to grows old and watch people die

I was team Stefan until he flipped his switch but i always felt he was better suited for whiny ass Elena. Jeremy, Bonnie and Matt never got the happiness they deserved. Enzo was my baby and Stefan lost all my respect when he touched him
Stefan didn't wanna do that. It was his switch. Stefan was a victim of vamprism. Stefan didn't wanna be a vampire it seemed like. Vamp Alaric didn't need one because he couldn't. Die unless Elena died.
The switch does differential things for different people. Caroline was already high functioning narcissist so th effects was going to be more different.
I know he's the father but i rather he died and the mom been on there instead 🤣 I’ll never get past his asshole role on Legally Blonde lol. But at the same time i disliked the moms character on she's All That. Honestly neither parent was needed. Both shouldve died
I hated alaric too. The caroline and alaric's relationship was creepy since she was his student at highschool. This forced pregnancy was annoying too. Then alaric in real is much worse since he is a creep who wrote creepy very sexual fanfictions about his female coworkers, look at his female coworkers's ass from legacy who could be his daughters. Then he was racist towards Asian people if i am not wrong. In short he is an asshole
I'm not sure how to answer your question because I don't see that in the series as you do, but I totally love Vampire Diaries. I am on Season 3 now. I even wrote a political parody myTake based on the series...

I love to bite but i think being a vampire was and because they often killed those close to them or just people in general. The sweetest person on that show could become a monster and murderer. Who wouldn't want a cure for that?

Half the time Damon would break Matt and Jeremys necks for fun or just because he got annoyed. I think he used to do the same to Vicky and Caroline. It was just a horrible thing to do. I hate to rewatch the show
Valid points. I actually hate damon for abusing caroline and Stefan for being a ripper. In my opinion switching off your humanity is an excuse to do bad things. It is like getting drunk and commit crimes but justify it due to being drunk. Caroline had a great control over herself despite being a baby vampire and she also did not really harm any human when she switched her humanity off. So caroline is a great example
I also hate the writers (?) obsession with delena (damon+elena) to the point that elena was forced to like damon due to a stupid a string. I only watch the show for elijah, rebekah, caroline, bonnie etc. aka good decent interesting entertaining characters
Lol i only watched for Enzo. When he died, im glad the show went ahead and died too. I didn't care much for caroline when they kept trying to force her to date stefan, damon or meanass Tyler. But she was cool solo. Claus was funny but too crazy. Matt never really got a big role and i wish he wouldve left like jeremy just to stop embarassing himself. But i loved Matt. I just hated how they wronged him. I wouldve rather had Sybil from the start over Elena. I already didn't care for her as Mia on Degrassi. I wanted Uncle Mason to have a bigger role too
Plus i wanted Damon with someone other than Elena. In real life she and damon broke up since he married the vamp from Twilight. But I bet she cringed still seeing damon mourn elena all that last season haha
its the age old "people crave immortality until they have it and get tired of living forever" and the feeling of being a parasite. But the series itself never really did that to me, Stefan wished he wasn't a vampire until he flew off the handle again. Some were at the "living forever is kind of boring but I'm not just going to lay down and get staked" mentality.
Having to watch the people around you die. The constant thirst for blood. Heightened senses including emotions. Having to hide who you really are.
Its like you didn't actually watch the show.

I know all this lol which are not really good reasons for me. I watch all 8 season. . You can turn the people you like;caroline had great control over herself despite being a baby vampire and so it is not that big deal to control senses/emotions; hiding yourself ain't difficult with manipulation ability.
I watched vampire diaries and the originals but vampirism sucks cuz u keep living century to century watching the people u care about die. Other than that I like it .
The original witch wanted her children to live forever. But after seeing what she had created, she realized this was an abomination. Something not ment to exist. And she and her husband tried many times to correct their mistake
