Please Teach Me How to Make Medieval Music?

I can't find any online courses on how to compose music like Guillaume De Machaut. Can you guys teach me or point me? Classical counterpoint/voice leading rules don't seem to apply to this style of Renaissance music.

My advice is to expose yourself to religious hymns from that age and than try to mimic their style

One basic thing I've learned a while back is that most music predating the Renaissance followed hexachordal (six notes) modes.

Seventh degree seems relatively newer and also introductions of sharps for minor scales to create a leading tone to the tonic.

I'm a huge fan! I've been trying to learn about tabla rhythms lately. Back to medieval music though, the voices seem to have a stronger desire to work back to the tonic. It's very cadence-oriented with very short phrases. Also lots of 3/4 time sigs -- apparently European people in the middle ages thought 3/4 was a holy signature indicating the Christian triad (holy father, mother, son) as with diatonic triads (they loved the number 3).

And "mostly" no tritones (diminished 5th or augmented 4th). I think I got that right with "mostly" (there's a myth that it was forbidden and considered satanic and banned by churches, but I think that was exaggerated), and if they included them very rarely, and typically only with an immediate resolution in the next bar.

Medieval music pieces are surely very hard to master compared to the pop and modern music. Music was very rich and heavenly in previous generations.
