I was watching Back To The Future (1985).. by 2015 we would have hover cars, etc.

Soylent Green (1973) takes place in 2022.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (tv 1979) said "in the year 1987, NASA launches the last of America's Deep Space Probes...

Star Trek the Original Series (1967) Space Seed said in 1999, we had our 3rd WW for Eugenics and Khan and his supermen, escaped Earth.

Lost in Space (1966) said the Jupiter 2 was launched in 1997.

so, what other movies and tv have predicted a year things would happen, but have not come true?

Because moviemakers care more about making a good story, then accurate predictions for the future, which is how it SHOULD be.

By the way, Demolition Man is the most accurate sci-fi movie to come true in reality. They got the year wrong (2030s, instead of 2020), they got Taco Bell and the "franchise wars" wrong, and they got the Three Seashells wrong. But everything else was completely accurate, including PC culture, the younger generations being emotionally weak pussies, the "deplorables" living underground in society (these would be modern-day conservatives and anti-PC people), and benevolent dictators pretending to be good people ruling over everyone.

Can we do books? JD Sawyer's Down From Ten was published in 2011, but the audiobook was released in podcast form in 2010. It takes place in 2016, for reasons I don't understand- it's about eight people in a mountain cabin, and makes no references to future technology or events. However, it makes one sad slipup, in referring to a fastidious neat freak character: "The first time I met her was at a convention. She was arguing with her agent about whether she actuallly had to go into the room whece they hadn't finished cleaning up from the Rocky Horror showing the night before. "
"So? That's not so extreme."
"She was accepting a Hugo."
And the second guy is blown away by this, indicating that the Hugo would still be a respected and venerated award in 2016.

On a less ideologically depressing note, 2001 was twenty years ago, and not only have we found no Jovian monoliths on the moon, we haven't sent a pcobe ho Jupiter in over a decade. Which ALSO means that 20*10* has come and gone, with no contact with Dave Bowman. Heck, we don't even have Dave BowIE anymore.

I’m sure most sci-fi shows that included a date, have long been proven ridiculously wrong! The early 1970’s TV Sci-Fi show, Space 1999 was, as the title suggests, set in fall of 1999, and it had a massive base on the Lunar surface, with tunnels beneath. The base is called Alpha, and it was basically a nuclear waste dump! Their spaceships are called Eagles (a throwback to “the eagle has landed” during the first moon landing.
the plot: in 1999, all the nuclear waste on the moon explodes, acting like a rocket it pushes the moon out of earths solar system within a matter of minutes, yet nobody dies from being crushed under the weight of the g-forces at play if the moon moved so quickly it left the solar system in mere minutes!

i have watched it a lot on reruns.. it was edgy scifi for the time.. and the same writer did the puppets Thunderbirds.

Thanks. I believe the show ended because the producer Gerry Anderson (who yes, also made the Thunderbirds, and many other marionette themed shows with his wife) divorced his wife Sylvia Anderson, who was considered the creative brain behind everything. Once she was gone, everything went to shit! That’s why season 2 of space 1999 is considered terrible in comparison, even the theme had to be changed because Sylvia Anderson had a minor hand in writing the original, but enough that once she left, it had to be changed!
(Special thanks to my British dad who exposed me to as much classic ‘70s and 80’s culture, TV, and music as he could.) My father even gifted me an original Teleport Bracelet, “borrowed” from the set of the BBC Sci-Fi show Blake’s 7, by my great uncle who worked in special effects, and inspired my father to go into TV and motion picture special effects, but by the time my dad was of age everything was becoming CGI, and so he married his two loves and created software that makes CGI look more realistic, and less time intensive.

The Back To The Future ones have become partly true. We do indeed have hover cars just not in the way you imagined.

As for other movies, the original Blade Runner movie was set in 2019 and it predicted a badly polluted, dystopic corporate run Los Angeles with an impoverished populace. Have to say that sad aspect of it has partially come true. The amount of homeless on the streets of California or Washington state today forced out by the high cost of rental or home ownership is staggering to say the least.

Well, I'm going the opposite direction. In an interview with Leonard Nimoy's daughter, she said she could never look at her dad speaking on a cell flip phone without smiling.

But to stick with the theme, in the original movie "The Time Machine" there was supposed to have been a nuclear war in the late 1960's.
