First strictly talking music here the Russian anthem sounds better than the United States national anthem. The Russians have Tchaikovsky writer of the nutcracker Versus the United States who do we have as far as classical music goes. I love the United States I don’t support Russia but I have to admit that as far as sound goes there a national anthem is better.
Copland, Ives, Barber, Sousa... we do okay with Classical music. Heck, even Gershwin and Joplin did some good stuff, beyond the pop music they're known for.
But on the whole, no, it's not bad. The Russian anthem is based on the Soviet one, which even I can admit is musically very pretty (lyrically, not so much). The American national anthem is based on... well, some people will tell you it's set to the tune of an old English drinking song, which is not quite correct. The Anacreontic society was based first and foremost around POETRY, but it *was* largely poetry in the "wine, women, and song" sense, so it's more a carousing song than a drinking one, and it served a self-regulating purpose: if a member couldn't keep up with the changes and shifts, then he'd clearly had too much.
Now, if you're saying the Russian FLAG is better than the American, we'll have an issue- they just took the Serbian flag and turned it upside down; we put actual DESIGN into ours.

America mostly grew after the "Classical Period" but we have some great composers of post-Classical music: in my opinion George Gershwin is the greatest. He tragically died at only 39.

No, even though I have many things to blame Russia for, I admit their anthem is beautiful. It is based on Soviet Union anthem.
