Has a good book ever brought you to tears?

What was the book?

Can’t count the times I’ve been caught up in a good book and started sniffling. Emotional true stories, favorite fictional characters die a heroic or tragic death.. or an especially happy ending.

I was waiting for my truck to be serviced once and was hit with an unexpected death scene while reading in the waiting room. Yeah. I was attached to the character and it noticeably effected me. People around me were smiling. lol

A good book a good movie a person a kid a pet we all have emotions and when there's something that touches us we can react or react or we can feel it and if you feel it you can become it and if you become it you have to understand it if you understand it it makes you feel something and that emotion is going to go 500 different directions yes all the above has made me tear up or have tears and I don't mind it at all I think it's kind of funny sometimes but that's just who I am and on that level I don't mind it at all we all have different levels of everything if ever Direction and that's who I am so yes I have teared up before on the littlest things

I think that's the reason why we're all here is to feel emotion because it takes you to a lot of different places and if you can feel emotion then you should be able to control emotion so it's like most people they say that they drink to numb out I don't believe that I believe that they drink to feel something even deeper I think we're supposed to experience it all from day one we start walking we start experiencing things and we never stop so I am basically I feel that's the reason why we're here to experience everything even emotion and energy

Seriously, there have been a few, but that was the first.

It's so embarrassing in public. I was sniveling on a plane once with a book.

Fellow weeper! 😎 It is embarrassing, lol But then you think. A book did that! I want to be able to bring that emotion to someone. Pretty powerful.

Did you ever see the movie?
It was titled "Charly" and was made in 1968 starring Cliff Robertson and Claire Bloom.
Cliff Robertson won the Academy Award for Best Actor for that role.

Yes! It takes great character development to have your reader make that kind of emotional connection.

Flowers for Algernon was made into a movie called "Charly" with Cliff Robertson. It was filmed at a bakery that was a customer of a company I used to work for. There is a credit at the end of the movie.

I think I've only had a tear in my eyes twice reading a book.
I don't cry that often from things I read - and I rarely read something that has the potential to make me cry.

YES! Scott O'Dell's Island of the Blue Dolphins! As an educator of 22 years, I read that book no less than 22 times to my students! It's the story based on the adventures of the lone woman of San Nicholas Island (named Karana in the book), a real life individual. She is stranded to live alone on an island off the coast of California. She befriends a wild dog and names him Rontu. Rontu becomes her faithful and beloved companion. Indeed at times her *only* companion. And as dogs do, he grows old and dies. EVERY TIME I read that chapter, I fight back tears! Every time my voice goes a little hoarse. Each and every year. EVERY. FREAKING. TIME!!!

Hopefully I can do that when Eggumi indirectly breaks the fourth wall and calls out the reader who is possibly a Filthy Casual or worse but canonically is talking to people watching the News. Here’s what she says, a short story called POV: Humans

You don’t need to read all of it, just start off from “animals aren’t enough”. You can read it all if you want though…. I don’t mind. At all.

I won’t. It’s all true though, you can see it all happening now. Of course, most of what she said is only a prediction but I’m confident I pull off a Simpsons and at least some mod that will actually happen her on this Earth.

I can't say a book brought me to tears, but a fictional book has shocked and/or disturbed me considerably and revolutionized my thinking. For instance:

This book is about to become a 10-part TV series streamed by Amazon.

No. I don't think so.

I'm an avid reader and I've had lots of books captivate me... ones I could not put down but I don't think I've ever cried. The music score in movies... seeing the actors faces... etc., that extra element seems to be needed to bring out that emotion I think.

Just envisioning the characters and situation in my head doesn't do it.

Yes. I’m a big reader too. I like the escape reading can bring. It rests the mind from routine. Letting others play with your emotions is pretty fun.

My old head chef rode a Triumph and gave me “Zen and the Art Motorcycle Maintenance” I liked that book a lot actually, a security guard at the same place gave me some short WW2 graphic novels, I remember one one the Battle of Britain and the other on the firebombing of Dresden, not sure if they’re still in print, but this was 15 years ago and I still remember 😭

I tear up more often from movies.
