Have you ever read a book that brought you to tears because of how close the main character mirrors your own life?

I just started reading this new book, where this guy who was 18, got a job on a farm run by an older lady (older by his standards 27).

That's not the part that mirrors me though. It's his back story. His mother and him move constantly, she's always hated him, because he was not a girl, you later find out that she intended to sell her daughter to some people if he was indeed a girl, but he came out a boy. And ever since his birth she's been drinking, doing drugs, acting like a prostitute, though prostitute isn't the right word, cause she doesn't get paid for it, and prostitutes get paid. Every time he does something slightly wrong, she beats him..

Ever since getting a job on this farm, things are going well for him, and he has a bit of a crush on the owner of said farm. One day he doesn't show for work, and she is concerned. Later that day one of his friends comes in with him draped over his shoulder. He is bleeding, looking like he has multiple broken bones and the like. The owner of the farm is PISSED, especially when she finds out that his mother did that to him. Her initial thought is to find this boys mother and end her. Instead she takes 40k in cash and tells her to get the f out of town, that she doesn't have a son any more. After she reports the lady to the police, and that's the end of any issues with his mom.

Later on he really starts falling for this lady after he recovers. He confide in her that he has no hope of college even though his grades are good and the like, so she works with some of her friends and suddenly he is granted a scholarship to go to school for agriculture, which is something he wants to do. After college he comes back, still with a huge crush on her.. And they end up getting together..

His life with his mom mirrors my own, it had me in tears reading it cause it brought my own horrible memories back. It took me a lot longer to find my hero (my wife), but I was elated when he found his happy ending.
