Title says all. I was talking about the Star Wars prequel trilogy with some of my friends and we brought up Jar Jar Binks. I was looking for an excuse for the Jedi to be justified in killing him, so my justification was that he gave emergency powers to Palpatine, and therefore merited execution. Now my friends turned around and said that it was inevitable. What do you guys think?

EDIT: Let me rephrase this: if Jar Jar didn't suggest the idea of giving emergency powers to Palpatine, would either a) the senate would have not given that power to him, thwarting Palpatine's chances of becoming emperor, b) some other senator would've suggested the idea and Palpatine would've become emperor anyways,
Inevitable? Nothing is, really. But Palpatine probably would've still taken power; just not in that particular way at that particular time. The man is very patient and very adaptable; he's not going to give up just because one attempt failed.

It doesn't make any sense. The Senate gave Palpatine his emergency powers, which he was supposed to give back once the war was over.
Jar-Jar is just one senator among thousands.
