When I was 16 in my first year of public high school. I had gone to Catholic school before that.
A new friend asked me if I wanted to go see Jimi at the Los Angeles Forum. I had never been to a concert before. I was new to driving and kind of nervous about the idea of driving through L. A. to the Forum at night. Plus, I didn't know much about Hendrix yet. I mostly knew songs like Foxy Lady and Purple Haze that were on the radio.
So I decided to pass and said I'd catch him on his next tour.
He died a few months later.
I wound up going to hundreds of concerts during the 70s a saw the best bands and musicians of all time. But I'm a rock guitarist and Jimi is my idol.
One of the greatest regrets of my life is not seeing and hearing him perform.

By the way, statistically musicians are no more likely to die at 27. It's basically an urban myth. Musicians are more likely to die younger than the average person, but there is not a big spike at 27.
There are a whole bunch of musicians that I wish were still around.
