Even before you go and watch it beause you can't predict if you like it or not only after you go and watch the movie.
Trailers, Ticket sales, casting, plot, movie promotion before it hits the theater., other factors?
I mean there are good movies that people go and watch but in ticket sales the movie can't be considered successful or the other way around. Bad movies and yet they are successful at the Box Office beause people simply like the movie for other things that are not even related to the plot or the story, they go for lets say the movie star is good looking, the effects for the trailer look awesome, but not because the story is good and really worth watching it.
For example for me Thor Love and Thunder was a terrible movie, terrible plot, nothing was good the only good thing was that Chris Hemsworth is a good looking guy but that is all there is to it. I did nto wathc it in the theater luckily I watch it at home and I watch it onlynot beause I was super hyped and interested in watching it but for curiosity I just decided to watch it to check how was it at the end terrible terrible for me. But then for otehr people the movie was great and good and I think it had a decent numbers at the BO and was considered lets say successful even if for me it had to be a total flop, lame meaningless, empty story
Another example, Chris Pine Indie movie "Hell or High Water", it was great movie, interesting plot, nothing too fancy, but the acting of Chris,, Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster was excellent. But I guess for many people that movie was boring and not interesting and perhaps at the BO was not that successful. The movie promotion was not huge it was rather small.
