This song as a huge hit by Glen Campbell but this is the guy who wrote it. I heard this on the radio last week and wondered who it was. Jimmy Webb was one of the most prolific songwriters of the 60s and 70s. He wrote MacArthur's Park, Wichita Lineman, Up-Up and Away, By The Time I Get to Phoenix and of course the classic Galveston.

The great Jim Webb! I heard him play but not sing, I thought he was more the studio musician and writer. Yes, very talented fellow... some people know how to create songs. Id wonder if he was hanging around Nashville... has that feel to it.
Impressive what Glen Campbell did with this song, gave it a lot more energy.

@DubiousIntentions Agree, I believe it's where he got his start... picking and singing. He and Roy Clark seemed the best of that era, of country.

Glen actually got his start as a studio musician. He was one of the guitarists who played with the famous Wrecking Crew, which is impressive because he couldn't read music. He was just that good on the guitar and could pick things up instantly.

Jimmy Webb was (is) one of the top song writer/composers, with several platinum records to his name. People might not know his name, but they definitely know many of his songs.
He recorded several albums of his own and, all in all, made a good living.

It's surprising how many people who have hit songs didn't write them. Another great song writer was Burt Bacharach. Bob Dylan has written a ton of songs over his 60 year music career.
