I'm going to a really small show next week, I've never really went to (small) concerts because I couldn't find any. I read some experiences from others about how people at small shows like that are rude apparently and now I'm nervous because I don't look like I listen to metal at all
I go to bars sometimes and people literally always tell like that I don't look like I listen to this type of music at all because "everyone here is dressed black and you're not" I'm blonde I wear dresses a lot and pearl necklaces even I don't know, people are very nice to me there though and all but I read some stuff as I said about how small shows are different. I probably won't be wearing a white dress you know but still I'm worried to go there now like should I just wear something black for the sake of it even then I'll still get those comments I know it. I'm glad I'm not a man they'd probably call me a poser straight to my face lol
Any advice

While not really there anymore I grew up in a town where about half of everyone was into metal. We had biweekly or so highly attractive events and smaller concerts (200-1000 people).
Being part of that scene with my friends and I having our own rooms backstage I was in pretty deep so I have a bias.
There is probably no friendlier musical genre than metal. Bar none. There are rules, things you might want to avoid like the mosh pits, but everyone is normally super nice. If anyone were to question you belonging there just compliment the music. You shouting back "This is cool!" will turn a hater into your biggest supporter in a second.
Looking out of place isn't bad. Increases the odds someone adopts you. As always though, while I adamantly believe this is the nicest crowd of people it is still people and you don't know them. So as always do be mindful of yourself around any strangers.
Also: Metal concerts are among the absolute best to go to. Its like a football stadium when somebody scored but all the time.
I've been to 30ish concerts. Anywhere from small rinkydink venues of a few dozen people to stadium sellouts. I never once felt uncomfortable at any of them.
I saw a group called Nightwish which is a "Symphonic, gothic, power metal" band.
And there was an even mix of guys and girls there. Half of them were dressed like they had class at the local college after the show.
You're gonna have a blast. Don't worry about looking like you're supposed to be there or not.
Who's show are you seeing? Out of curiosity.
