Who knows anything about surround sound?

My question is it would make sense to switch the rear L and R speakers right?

So you're when you're facing away from them, the Left and Right orientation is the same as the front speakers?
Or will this negatively impact the surround effect?

There is no reason to swap the left and right. It doesn't matter that you are facing away from one pair of speakers. The left is still the left and the right is the right.

Do it the way it's designed and keep the speakers where they belong. You can do it any way you want, but the music is recorded and mixed to be listened to a certain way. It's largely a random choice which side is which. But there is no reason to mess with it.

I understand that, but when the speakers are behind you, the left and right orientations are reversed if they're set up the way they're intended when facing them. So shouldn't they be reversed if their going to be behind you?

But if I was to switch them, the left and right from behind would collide with the L and R from the front. So I'm not sure if that would mess with the surround effect.
I could just try both, but that's more work than I want to do lol

The rear speakers are not reversed. The left is on the left and the right is on the right. You are supposed to face the front speakers, with the read speakers behind you. If you turn around and face the rear speakers, then all four speakers are wrong, not just the rear speakers.

The whole thing is designed to sit in the middle facing the front speakers. If you move anywhere else, or face any other direction, then things are not how they were designed to be.

But that's not how they were intended. They are supposed to be behind you. All the sound recording and mixing is designed for that.

No they don't mirror each other and they are not switched. Just leave them alone. Professional audio engineers designed it the way it's supposed to be designed.

For the record, I've worked with high end audio engineers, and done some of the design myself. You do NOT need to switch the speakers. The speakers are not wrong, you are not thinking correctly.

It's the same as real life hearing. If you are walking along the street and a loud motorcycle is behind you and passes on your left, you will hear it to the back left, then after it passes you will hear it to the front left. The sound will be toward your left the entire time.

If you have surround sound and watch a movie with a motorcycle passing on the left, it will do exactly the same thing. The sound will be toward your left the entire time.

Uhmmm... do you think the surround sound system developers are a bit dense or something? The front and rear channels are of course set up to sound from the same sides when sitting in the middle.

I have no idea what you mean by "official". If this is some weird Chinese knock-off with the rear sound as a simple mono channel split into two speakers, switching them would make no difference.

Just try different combinations with your speakers and see what works.
