Did anyone here ever actually watch Saved By the Bell as a kid?

I liked a couple episodes, but found it kinda problematic. I found it to be low-key sexist, classist, and made the teachers look like jackasses and incompetent. I get it's just a tv show and many cartoons are the same way, but even then cartoons are meant to be somewhat illogical.

I don’t think anyone was a bigger hero to me as a young gun than Zack Morris. He was just everything I aspired to be, lmao.

Some guy named Dashiel Driscoll made a really good Funny Or Die video series called Zack Morris Is Trash, and it recaps episodes while retelling them a little more honestly, and calling out Zack for fucked up or stupid things he did that were just kind of laughed off like “oh, that Zack Morris, what a rascal.” He was also one of the main writers on the reboot they tried to do a couple years ago, but I think it was cancelled after a couple seasons.

I met him once at an autograph signing when I was like 13. I would never get the real answer for like another 20 years with the help of the internet, but when I got up to him, I said “why is it that when Zack is in junior high, you live in Indiana, but then in high school you moved to California, and brought half of your friends and your principal with you?” He just winked at me and goes “you’re a smart guy”, and then 8 just got hustled off with my signed picture of him and no answer, haha. Turns out, it started as a Disney show called Good Morning, Miss Bliss, but it got cancelled, then NBC picked it up, rebranded it as Saved By The Bell, and we were being shown Miss Bliss episodes as “flashback” episodes, and they’d start with an intro by an older, present-day Zack telling you it was from junior high.

Anyway, Saved By The Bell was one of my all-time favorite shows as a kid, but I can’t imagine it would hold up if you showed it to someone for the first time as an adult. Definitely a few things that you couldn’t do on TV today, particularly a Saturday morning/after-school (in syndication) kids show.

Not really. I didn't find it sexist enough. It was too woke. That's why I watched Married With Children.
