**For Me, I Would Not Keep All of That Money. xxoo
Once I've paid off my debt I'd buy a smallholding and turn it into a mini conference centre for church leaders to get time off. Most of the pastors I've had work 52 weeks each year. Maybe if they're really fortunate they are off two weeks, but they're on-call 24/7 the rest of the time. They're only human. It's unfair to assume they can function like that if you can't.
Seriously, would you take a job that usually is below national average income where you're responsible for counselling and supporting over 150 people through marriage counselling, grief counselling, marriage preparation, domestic abuse survivors, rape and sexual assault survivors, births, terminal illnesses and a million other things - all the while hearing about how "all priests are sexual predators" or "they're just in it for the money" (like you're not going to work for the money), and doing all this while extending Love, Forgiveness and Grace the whole time to every SOB that comes through the door. In extreme cases having to hear the "Confession" of an abuser, rapist or even killer in a denomination where breaking the "sanctity" of the confessional would result in losing your post.
I'd use that money to give something back to every minister of every church I've been blessed by who are still living and to be a sanctuary for the others who the world uses as punch bags.
And yes, I'm angry at how Christians are presented. There's a lot of genuine believers in the military. We're not generally pacifists.
I take it you're Catholic?
@Daniela1982 nope. Never have been either. The accusations aren't limited to Catholic priests. Anyone who has a backwards collar gets painted with the same brush. I know Anglican, Baptist and Methodist ministers who've had to deal with the accusations without any actual accusers, just the "you're all the same" verbal assault.
You're right, only Christ forgives sin and He's the only mediator.
Anglicans and Baptists don't call it "confession". It's just counselling. It comes down to the same thing with a Bible-based minister of any denomination. It's helping the congregant get to a place they can draw close to Christ and confess to HIM. The minister is just the guide to reach the door.
10% to parkison's disease research
10% to alzhiemer's research
5% to St Jude's Children's hospital
5% to my high school alma mater
10% to my college alma mater
5% to local charity for homeless families and women's shelter
5% to local animal rescue/shelter
20% to family members
rest for me
Yes my daughter lol
If I won a million. The first thing I would do is take a much needed & well deserved long holiday. After that I would invest the rest in my retirement. Hopefully that will give me enough so I don't have to kill myself working the hours I have been working the last 10 to 20 years.
Well, there are tons of homeless around who no one is helping. I was thinking it would be neat to make an old bus into a mobile shower unit to drive from place to place so homeless can take a shower. I'm not sure how that could be done but it is something I would look into.

Give my sister $50k.
Pay off the $50k I owe on my credit union HELOC.
Pay $7k toward the $72k balance on my 1% interest credit card, which is the only card on which I owe a balance.
Finish the second story of my two story garage.
Install an automatic-starting generator that can power my entire house and runs off of our propane tank.
Build a new pump house for my well at the bottom of our hill. Install an emergency generator there, too, for the pump. Put a large fence around it to keep it secure.
Install a remote controlled gate at the bottom of our driveway with a call box to my phone.
Grade and re-gravel our 1/2 mile long driveway like new.
Do upgrades to the inside and outside of our house.
Do a lot of upgrades to the landscaping, pathways and steps in our sloping orchard.
Add more raised beds and make improvements to our veggie gardens.
Build a secure coop and large run for 4 or 5 chickens.
Install fire sprinklers on the roofs of our house, solar shed, pump shed, chicken coop, and around our orchard.
Thin out some trees (oaks and gray pines) on the lower half of our 30 acres.
Buy a bunch of ounces of silver.
Put the rest of the money in my managed IRA account.
A $million ain't all that much. I need to protect myself and my wife through retirement and against possible food and energy shortages and economic/environmetal disasters.
My first obligation is to my wife and family.
When you fly on an airplane, the flight attendant instructs you to “put your oxygen mask on first,” before helping others. Why is this an important rule for ensuring survival? Because if you run out of oxygen yourself, you can't help anyone else with their oxygen mask.
Also, I wouldn't donate to any large charities (corporations) because a small percentage of donations actually go to the intended cause while the CEOs make a $million a year.
There are some really good small charities, though. I have personally dealt with a wonderful, local, no-kill animal shelter. We have adopted four cats from them over the years and have participated in fund raisers to assist their ongoing work. And there are two excellent local homeless shelters. I've done benefit work for one of them.
I also own 30 acres of oak grassland that has never been disturbed by humans. Our house pad and gardens take up a small portion. There are deer, lots of other animals, turkeys, quail, woodpeckers and lots of other birds. It is a healthy, balanced ecosystem. I treat it as a nature preserve and feel like I am doing my part to preserve the environment of the planet.
I do donate here and there to various non-profits that I find worthy, but I don't feel an obligation to spend a certain % of my income on charities.
Be all gone in less than six months. About one third of it would go in taxes. Leaving about 700 thousand.
So about
300 thousand to pay of my house
40 thousand to pay of personal bills
30 thousand to do some remodeling
80 thousand to help my daughter on her school debt
120 thousand give my daughter for a down payment for a house so she can stop renting
60 thousand for a new Jeep Wrangler
Ok if I’m lucky enough I am left with less than 70 thousand dollars. You have to admit I really did not waste it. Maybe you might say I wasted the money on my daughter but she is our only child and she is family and we love her. As for the Jeep I just love the Wranglers, besides I need a new one, so I can build it my way by myself.
Yes my daughter lol
I would be giving at least 20% away to charity of some kinds, probably a mix. My house would be paid off and my land payment would go by by and save the rest to live on as long as possible while still working, if I had enough to be comfortable probably get a less paying job that involved doing some good.
Well after taxes I might be able to buy a house for myself for $600,000 since that’s all that would be left and the average house price here would use all of it, I would still have to work just to pay the taxes which is more than a mortgage and then insurance and utilities but at least I would have an asset. A million dollars isn’t what it used to be
Yeah, that would be nice if I could ever get a house
What I've learned from this and by this I mean reading everybody else's opinions don't ever get a credit card or lend money out to anybody lol. Honestly I would probably convert it to different currencies to see if it would go down at all if I were to convert it back lol
Lol I would be in debt so quick
I would seek financial advise for the best way to invest most of it for future use. My house is paid for but I do need to get a new car this year, so I would keep some money back to pay for the car. It wouldn't be much as I have saved almost enough to pay cash for a new car already.
First, I would tell no one.
Second, I am buying the local Gas & Sips and lowering the prices to draw customers whilst allowing the current staff to continue working them at reasonable percentage.
Third, in increments I would donate to Small Volunteer Animal shelters and Rescues (ASPCA/PETA get only My contempt).
Forth, I would pay off My Home so My own little Brother may live in a House with Me.
Before Humans ever showed recognition of My existence, My first friends were Dogs, still the only ones I have unconditional love for.
I'd give at least one-third to my niece, nephew, nephew-in-law, great-nephew and treat my boys. I'd bank some of the rest, and seek a 20-40-year-old buxom blonde with some.
half a million dollars would go to the few vet/rescue clinics in my region...
and the other half would go to public clinics but the children's area
i would give some to my dad so we could buy a house and then i would give some to a rescue shelter of dogs and cats and then i would give some to kids with cancer and the make a wish place to ❤️
I will definitely use it to increase my down payment for a large piece of property I've been eyeing.
A million dollars does not get what it used to. I would use it to retire. It should just be enough if Biden should get re-elected.
I would put a couple hundred thousand away for my retirement, and then donate the rest to my favorite charity St Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis Tennessee.
After taxes its about 600k pay off all of my debt, then probably buy solar batteries for the house. Anything left over would be put into either my company or household improvements.
I'd set up endowments for a lot of the local shelters and animal rescues so there will be loving boops long after I've left.
I would donate some to animal rescue charity. Pay off my house and invest the rest. Got to make that money as long as possible. If it's invested correctly it could be additional retirement income
I will give some to my family and friends, donate some, spend some, and invest the rest for passive income.
I would build a house from scratch big enough so my parents and partners mum could have wings. The design would be to cater to disabilities and health issues. I would invest a large portion of what's leftover from building the house. I have also always donated to charity when I am able even if it is only 20 cents, it all helps.
I'd donate 50000 to the Baypath Animal society for the help they provided when i couldn't afford to put my sick dog down.
Pay off the mortgages on our two kids' houses.
Take a decent family trip.
Bank the rest - after taxes- for retirement.
@Paris13 i will just invest it for long term to make fixed income
1. Don’t tell anyone. Anyone.
2. place it in an interest compounding bank account. Even if you spend some. Just keep it there. Hell you may be able to live off the interest earnings.
The tithe for one million is one hundred thousand which would be divided between Christian and Jewish charities. The rest I would find use for…. lol
lol... @nawtee_me ... ME AND U? lolxxoo
It would go to a permanent home, body work for my car, a new Ford Ranger and a DeLorean.
Helping those who are food insecure locally.
One million dollars will barely buy me a house these days
Try to save as much as I can for getting married with a decent home.
I would buy a Denny’s and hire good professionals to work it
My good. It might go in to an IRA or CD or maybe even savings for interest collect only.
I will donate half of it towards cancer treatment and other half invested in real estate, debt, stocks
I would pay off some bills and do some work on my house and put the rest in savings.
I'd pay myself 10k per month
That should last about 10 years
College education for my kids.
To make it 4 million and donate two million 😀
Perhaps a home purchase
I would start my business and change the world.
Thanks! 😀
Pay off our mortgage, invest a bit, take my family on vacation and put the rest in our savings accounts.
By me a new car the rest to my debt that I have.
It doesn’t matter at the end it’s gone.
I would buy prime hunting land. for conservation. Nothing would ever be built there, except for my house and a garage.
I'm keeping it all for myself lol
My retirement.
Buying cheap land
Pay off my debts.
Pay off debt.
