I'm not sure if I worded this correctly but could you all recommend some films to me with particularly fascinating and lengthy amounts of exposition? That is to say, films that explain what's going on in a very intriguing way (typically from a very intelligent and well-spoken character, like a professor lecturing their students). Some examples:
Event Horizon (my favorite scene where Dr. Weir played by the great Sam Neil explains the Gravity Drive in laymen terms):
Copycat (Dr. Hudson giving a lecture on the patterns of serial killers):
Jurassic Park (so many amazing monologues and dialogues there but a sample of Dr. Malcolm):
The opening of David Lynch's Dune with Princess Irulan delivering the exposition (I love the entire film as it's very heavy on exposition given that it's trying to cram so much material from the books in a short runtime):
Star Trek: TNG is the motherlode for me when it comes to the most intriguing deliveries of exposition.
I'm not sure I explained what I'm after very well but if anyone sort of understands what I'm after, I'd appreciate any recommendations! I really love these types of scenes.

maybe give it a try to Hannibal, but the series...
because it seems to me like every single episode of that series has that... every scene seems to be a very well directed exposition of the plot, by the visuals, the sounds, the dialogues... transitions, even the special effects were very well done by whoever directed this thing
I have to check it out, thanks! I love Silence of the Lambs (one of my favorite horror films), but I never watched that series before.

I love that scene! It's combining everything together in an expository sense, and Hannibal is definitely a most intriguing speaker. I'll definitely add this series to my to-watch list. I'm a bit lazy sometimes about TV series since they require such a time investment but that one definitely seems worth the time.
I think you could like the exchanges between Hannibal and Bedelia, his psychologist
I'll have to check it out! I think I love very interesting dialogue in general (huge Tarantino fan).
I've seen his every movie a few times, lol
yo thats fucked up. at least he has good technique
Same! I seem to be in the minority but I think my favorite is The Hateful Eight. It's either that or Django Unchained for me.
definitely messed up... but for most of the series, you definitely forget he's eating your neighbor...
the series is not actually as gory but more refined, lol
Django Unchained has to be my favorite movie in recent history. Jamie Foxx has insane swagger in it.
Don't think I can point out one fault in that movie.
Is this not the movie where they cook his sister? Holy fuck just remembering that gives me ptsd.
@ChefPapiChulo I'm a big fan of both Schultz and Foxx in that one. Even DiCaprio was on top of his game in my opinion uncharacteristically playing a villain.
Honestly a cultural masterpiece. Quentin Tarantino proved why he's the best director alive with that one.
it will sound corny, but season 1-3 of Game of Thrones were increible... it's not all action and fighting but intricate intrigue, plotting, scheming, mind games and well... a game of thones
https://www.youtube.com/embed/z0VXYz7cjGEDefinitely! Some of the dialogue especially in early seasons was so good. I especially liked Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister. Have you seen Rome, by the way?
Rome was amazing too, I cannot believe they halted it
Yes, it's a real shame! I think they at least managed to end it in a fairly tidy way. GoT ending was so disappointing for me. Also enjoy Spartacus series a bit as a guilty pleasure. The dialogue isn't nearly as interesting but it's colorful and fun.
They don't make good movies like that anymore. It's all dumbed-down garbage.
Sin city is goated.
It's a shame. Blatant exposition also seems to be considered bad writing from what I can tell, but I think in films/shows, it can be very fascinating if delivered in a very interesting way by a skilled and well-spoken actor.
You playing any Bannerlord brother?
I haven't. It's been a while since I tried gaming. Is it any good? I watched some videos of the gameplay and it looks very nice so far.
Yeah it's alright. They're being Super slow on big updates and the keep doing pointless small updates that ruin mods, so while the game is good, the modding and features are bad compared to Warband.
That's one of the things I'm missing trying to look at features. As much as I loved vanilla Warband, the mods were what really took the engine to the next level and provided endless replayability for me. I keep hoping they'll make Prophecy of Pendor for Bannerlord.
That was a good one. I spent like 1000+ hours playing Brytenwalda and the Vikings xpac.
Vikings Conquest? I loved that one mainly for the story mode. Didn't even realize the engine could do that. The one thing I missed in that one was weapon variety, especially since I love bows and crossbows. I had to learn to get decent throwing javelins there.
I'll never get bored of role-playing as a viking. I had one playthrough where I was so close to finishing it (have never finished a playthrough lol) and the save fucking corrupted on me.
Ouch! I tend to recreate my characters all the time to try new builds so I end up running out of the 9 save slots really fast and have to back up my save files to make room for new slots. Have you seen the TV series, The Last Kingdom? I really enjoyed that one and prefer it to Vikings although I like just about anything related to vikings (also enjoy the movie, The 13th Warrior).
Yup, it was a solid show.
Historical fiction is probably my favorite genre besides sci-fi. Wish they made more films and shows set in distant historical periods.
I think the action is more exciting too in pre-gun eras. It has to be up close and personal and very bloody whereas with guns, it depends on the movie/show but sometimes it seems as though a character just miraculously dodges bullets left and right and then gets shot all of a sudden. It's kind of difficult to tell how much danger they're in as a result, whereas in a sword fight with people getting cut up and bruised all over the place, I get a strong sense of the danger they're in.
